Outer Heaven: here's something ballsy! This song especially gives a Domination-era Morbid Angel vibe in a great way. I kind of hope they change out this vocalist but he's not bad at all. Just a little monotonous. Nevertheless, this will likely be an album well worth checking out when it's completely out. Also, signing to Relapse Records is a good sign for them. I love Relapse.

Mutilated by Zombies: Upon listening to the new track you can hear here from their soon to be released new album, you're likely to hear some middle era Cannibal Corpse influence, especially in the slightly technical and angular riffs, which remind me of The Wretched Spawn era Cannibal Corpse. Also a nice half tempo groove in the middle with great action going on inside. Really top knotch sounding material here. Check them out! Don't expect them to sound like Cannibal though. Just a partial sound reference. redefiningdarknessrecords.bandcamp.com/album/mutilated-by-zombies-scripts-of-anguish

Two established bands who have released KILLER albums this year I want to mention:
Monstrosity: For those who are not familiar, this is the band that Corpsegrinder Fisher used to do vocals for before becoming famous as vocalist of Cannibal Corpse. Now this is their first album in a long while, and I won't pretend that I know all their albums, but this one is absolutely a banger! I am impressed with how different each song is, and how well written this album is! The solos are absolutely astounding on this. Do check it out!
Krisiun: Here's a band I had not been following, despite their extremely large catalogue of releases. This one seriously knocked me on my ass! Every song is brutal and high energy. The drumming is especially a highlight for me on this one, but also these guys write insane riffs and their solos are fucking impressive. Umm...just listen to it! It's definitely a contender for best death metal album of the year for me right now already!

And now for a couple of lesser known album releases that are killer.
Drawn And Quartered: This band has actually been around for a long time...1993 to be exact. They've REALLY enjoyed the underground life, I guess you could say. For an elderly death metal band, they really have evolved nicely, and this new album is great. Not terribly fast death metal. Heavy as a really heavy thing, and some really nice catchy riffs decorate this filthy record! I kinda wish the vocals were more varied, but that's a minor complaint.
Extremity: A new band featuring members from other established bands. Nothing more than accurate and well-executed old school death metal here. Sloppy is a word to describe its execution, but it's sloppy done right, like the Morbid Angel kinda sloppy, if you know what I mean. Really solid release/band!

Horrendous: New Horrendous album out tomorrow (9/28/18)! Listening to the album on youtube, they are continuing in the more progressive direction, and definitely take inspiration from Death's more progressive phase. This sounds incredible, and I expect to find this on many top lists for death metal in 2018!

I had never heard this band before. Pretty impressive that they just formed literally this year and already released a full length album of this quality. This is extremely clean for brutal death metal. While it's not really my taste, I have to give them a lot of credit because this is really skilled stuff, and wow...the drums. Nice to be able to hear all of that! Thanks for sharing~

Scorched: Here's a band that has only been around since 2015 but already have two splits, two full lengths, two demos, and a big compilation disc. They've kept busy, and have been extremely solid in the new uprising of old school death metal bands. I'm loving the tempo shifts and chunky riffage here. Do give them a listen. I do believe this album has officially released already this year.

Zealotry: I’ve followed this band since their previous release. Definitely some unique sounding death metal, with a very chaotic and progressive edge to it, although within the heaviest end of the word progressive. Not as many bands sounding like this. There’s a little bit of that later Gorguts flavor to it. Definitely likely be a stronger contender in the death metal realm for an album of the year pick.

Skeletal Remains: This band is definitely right for anyone who prefers their new death metal releases to be old school. A lot of Pestilence, Obituary, and Death-worship to be found in this band. Also, the band really just really knows how to groove. They excel when they slow things down into half time, but they're really great all around. Give them a listen: this is one of the best releases this year!

I quite enjoyed that video. Have you listened to the whole Jungle Rot album from this summer? I remember when it leaked and feeling interested in it but I had never fallen in love with this band before. I think I could really back these guys if they just brought more riffs to each song. I find them much like Obituary. Not flashy, but effective for what they are going for. Knuckle dragging death metal. I suppose I just need to dive in and get into it and see for myself.
