I feel it’s so hard to really call Motörhead a metal band, but so many people do. I think they themselves just called themselves a rock and roll band, and I tend to agree with that. But I don’t care. They’re fairly metal too. I’d count it just because they’re cool. Whats your favorite album? I love Overkill, probably followed by Orgasmatron, although I should probably listen to Ace of Spades more before I really call it.

They’re all really good and really Motörhead but overkill is my favorite. Ace of spades is a great album. Also love iron fist and orgasmatron lol

Skelator: If semi-operatic trad heavy metal vocals are off-putting to you, then don’t expect to like the vocals here. This guy used to front a Judas Priest cover band, granted he isn’t as solid as Rob Halford himself. Still, this band is a good time if you dig that kind of thing. Energetic, the choruses are generally quite catchy, and guitar solos are fun. This band is giving a lot of high energy Iron Maiden, Priest, and Agent Steel with their sound. Although, somehow it doesn’t sound directly like any of those. Haha

Lunar Shadow: Some of the other majorly underground heavy metal junkies like myself on the web are calling this the greatest heavy metal album of the year. I think it's always too early to say that when it's only August, but I will say this: This is one of the most beautiful heavy metal albums I've heard this year. It's very, very easy to listen to, very New Wave of British Heavy Metal inspired (something I personally adore, as it has a classic 80's soundscape at times), and there are just lots of cool features this album features. Vocals are nothing anyone here should struggle with here. The vocals aren't super strongly executed, but they are definitely far from annoying, and quite enjoyable. Maybe most comparable is the vocalist of Blitzkrieg and Satan, but that's also not completely accurate. There are hints of black metal in their sound, without this sounding like black metal, mostly found in the drums perhaps, as well as some melodic guitar riffs reminiscent of melodic black metal. Check out this epic track! The end is especially satisfying if you listened all the way through, as the build up is really cool!

Leviathan - they're labeled as melodic death metal, but to my ears it sounded like they would fall solidly in a NWOBHM camp. What say you?

What I'm hearing here is very trebly melodic death metal. There was a really great band back around 2010 or so with a similar sound that I wish I could recall right now, had some really great tunes and a fun guitar tone. I can quite truthfully imagine how you came to considering this as potentially a NWOBHM sound. And I really love when modern bands use that old school sound.

Metalian: Yet another Canadian trad heavy metal band I'm now fascinated with. This band's 2019 album was just recently released, and is the only album I heard in the last couple of months that immediately got three playthroughs from me on the first day listening. It kinda shocked me with how good it is. I won't be surprised if I add it to my top 10 at the end of the year. What a fun record! Vocals are surprisingly exciting! Guitar work is skillful and exciting. Not a very heavy band, but definitely great writing and execution. Solos are also really fun.

Sellsword: We’re all allowed to like at least one cheese-metal band per year, right? This is my guilty pleasure release of 2019, I’m calling it! Metal-archives labels them as epic heavy metal, which I can somewhat agree with, but for the first time, I think I will disagree overall and call this power metal of the European variety. Power metal is branched from traditional heavy metal, and I don’t want to make a power metal thread since I don’t generally have interest in it lately. But this release is just fantastic. Vocalist here is solid with a nice baritone-ish vocal approach, lyrics are cheesy as all get out, so don’t pay attention to them unless you like cheese. Instrument work is actually quite phenomenal. But what I think really this band has going for them is that their songwriting is superb. I’ve not been this excited about a power metal release since Sonata Arctica released Reckoning night a good ten years ago or something. This is a cheese-fest worth trying! And the guitar solos...oh god, those solos are just great.

Atlantean Kodex: This is epic heavy metal, an actual subgenre of metal. "Epic" is the key word, and yes, everything about this album glows on an epic scale. Look at the run times of the songs...everything is long. It requires a wealth of listening time, but it surprisingly does not require a lot of patience, because it just sounds and feels so good throughout its length. Consider the A-class vocalist's work here, one of the best in traditional heavy metal for sure. Lead guitar lines are subtle, yet powerful and meaningful. Riffing is melodic and heavy, ranging form slow to mid-paced. The drums are pounding, not all that busy or anything, but serve their purpose well. I won't say this will make my top 10 list this year yet, but it has a chance. I haven't had enough full listens to it yet due to its great length. The album is an hour and 3 minutes. Not the longest album I've heard this year, but it is far from short.

Definitely have to dig deeper into this genre, but I sadly forget about it too often. I think it’s really cool that you are definitely a hardcore guy, but you also like a lot of other music. I’m trying to be more open-minded towards hardcore as a whole, and actually I don’t outright hate it. I just don’t tend to find anything deeply interesting in it in recent years. But considering that you show you can even get down with traditional heavy metal and DOOM metal (I thought nobody on here liked doom but me...lol), you’re an open minded, cool dude!

Woah, reading this really warms up my heart my dude! I love the aggression of Hardcore and how crowd interaction works live, but someday you just get sick off listening to the same breakdown over and over again. I guess I can dig a band that delivers sick ass riffs and got a good or different voice. In hardcore I'm a sucker for vocalists with an interesting voice. But yeah, thanks man. <3

Been getting away from my metal threads because my non-desire to turn on my VPN to deal with youtube links, but now I'm at work with VPN through the wifi, so I'm gonna start sharing stuff again for those who keep up with these threads.
The Lord Weird Slough Feg (AKA Slough Feg): I love this band. They're trad heavy metal, but they're weird, as their old moniker would suggest. Their riffs are just, different. It's hard to point out a song and say that it is the best to check out, but this album here, Hardworlder is a great one, and the first track is an excellent place to start. I'm in love with this band. Lyrics are interesting, and worth trying to follow most times. They did release a new album recently called New Organon, which was good, but not their greatest work. But I love and appreciate that the band stay true to themselves and also experiment with their sound.
