Butcher: Okay, to be honest, it's not straight up thrash metal, but it doesn't strictly fit into any category we have here. This is blackened speed metal, which is kind of like saying blackened thrash metal, but with a more old school thrash vision that feels more tied to 80's heavy metal. But this doesn't sound like 80's metal. This band is fast, intense, and a big overloaded unit of energy. Just check out that final sting on this song, which ends with a bang! Speed is the game here, and these guys are masters~

Nekromantheon: After 9 years, they finally released this new album this year, and it is totally killer. Norwegian 3 piece band, 2 members being also in the Death Metal band Obliteration, who happened to have released my favorite album of 2018 with their last album. Loads of talent exists in this band, and so far this is the Thrash album to beat for me and many others who have heard it so far this year. Classic thrash metal energy here of the aggressive variety, fueled by fast and exciting riffs. Check it out!

Hellcrash: Italy's Hellcrash are one of the coolest things I've heard in a while. Not a strictly thrash band, as they are also a bit of a first-wave black metal crossed with traditional heavy metal band. To be straight, this band sounds exactly like the more extreme moments of Venom in their glory years. The vocalist here sounds like Venom's Cronos himself...he would most certainly be first in line to replace Cronos if the need ever existed. This is time portal music released this year, if you know what I mean. The production and stylings...everything is so 1980's Venom, and I eat this shit up. Get it!

Mystic Storm: Russian Thrash Metal band with a female vocalist. I've probably said it a lot on forums that I usually don't enjoy Metal with female vocals. Not a sexist reason, but simply because I tend to find the tone less suitable to the music. Last year I had a few really glowing exceptions to that feeling, and right here is another great one. This girl has a bit of grit, and really channels the perfect energy for the band. This is Thrash Metal that has elements of Power Trip and also some more traditional Heavy Metal elements in the instrumental department at times, but make no mistake, this is a Thrash album. Whether or not it will make my top 10 list this year, not sure. But this is a very, very solid album.

The Troops of Doom: Whoa, this is seriously my first thrash post in 2022 here!? I mean, granted, there really hasn't been a lot of good thrash in my opinion this year. But The Troops of Doom man...these guys just don't do anything badly. They have a lot of singles, two EPs and all, and formed in 2020, this is now their first full-length that just released. It's really good. The band are named after a Sepultura song, and a guitarist here was a member of Sepultura during their more primitive years in the 80's. If you liked Sepultura's classic thrash album Beneath the Remains, there's a lot to like about this one. It's very heavy, fast, and after a couple of listens, it even becomes a bit catchy.

Evil Invaders: The new album was silently released if you ask me, but this band really gets a lot of respect from me. A Speed Metal/Thrash band with infrequent power metal touches with a HUGE guitar presence. The vocals on this album are much more melodic than previous work, but also go in more harsh directions too throughout the album. THIS MUSIC VIDEO THOUGH...OMG! They had a ton of fun filming this one. This style of metal is obsessed with a theme of insanity, murderous energy, and generally sadistic flavor, and oh boy did this video play up to it. Just watch those first 60 seconds...hahaha I love this. His eyes were so perfect, and the breaking of the glass was so fun. This stuff tends to be cheesy but I felt this was just really well done.

Korrosive: This one came out a month ago or so and really slays. Definitely one of the strongest Thrash albums of the year, might manage to crack my top-10 list this year if I get in enough time with it. Already I have had three full listens and it is really holding up well. This is a very heavy form of Thrash which borders on Death Metal at times stylistically. The sample track here has lots of nearly Cannibal Corpse level moments on it, especially the 6/8 grooves. Just a feeling, but I somehow expect you'll like this one, v9733xa . Also, look at that badass cover!

Thanks for that. That's not bad, though I'm not sure if I'd like a whole album of it. I liked the song though.

Overkill: New Jersey's legendary thrash band now 43 years old have just released their 20th full-length album, Scorched, and it's a banger! I'm a long time fan of the band, and when I stop and really think about it, they are the best thrash band of all time for me personally. That's a tough statement to make when they have had Slayer to compete with. Bobby Blitz is one of the most charismatic vocalists in the subgenre, whether you like or dislike his vocal approach. He went all out on this album given his age and everything. The riffs on this album are bigger than any of the last 10 years for the band, which says a lot. Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner returns for this album and delivers another stellar drum performance to boost the liveliness of the album. All around a great record full of unique flavors and influences along the way.
