Suicide Cult: This new album, “Never See the Sun” runs for 30 minutes, and is only three tracks long. I kinda got it blindly hoping it would be a good one. Definitely the first and last tracks are pretty solid for what it is. This is doom/stoner metal, and is very slow and fuzzy, this track showing how crushingly heavy their sound can be. Also, there are some nice bluesy licks here, really tasty if you have the patience to listen to it. As for the album, not going to be on my top 10, but at least this song is well worth listening to.

Monasterium: Saw this one many times but never had much interest in checking them out. Glad I finally did. This isn’t a doom hybrid like most of the stuff I post. This is just pure doom, very much influenced by Candlemass. It’s safe to say that if you like Candlemass, you’ll like this. Don’t know Candlemass? Try slow, heavy songs that don’t feel boring, with the typical boring sections filled in with beautiful guitar leads. Throw in some strong, semi-operatic vocals, and you get this (and/or Candlemass).

Solstice: These Britts released a real epic of an album last year called White Horse Hill. It is a very highly valued treasure in my music collection, and one of my favorite records at this time. What they are bringing is epic doom metal, which is to say that they took their influences from epic heavy metal, as opposed to taking their doom metal in the more common directions nowadays like stoner doom and doom/death. This album has a few heavy hitters, as well as a couple of beautiful interludes and such. This is the first big tune on the album, and it starts a bit heavy, but finishes even bigger. Vocalist for this album has a powerful, baritone voice, which perfectly suits their style.

Great thread, Stringy! Warning with one of the most beautiful doom albums ever. Really glad you posted this one, as Warning have been on my list of doom oldies to check out for a few months now actually. They seem to have a legendary status in the scene. I can kinda see why many are saying the vocals are off-putting, but I dig them personally. As for the lyrics, I can absolutely say they don’t impress me, however. Hahaha! I guess when you get spoiled by an album such as this year’s release by Troll, Legend Master, which has incredibly well-structured instrumental and vocal work with an incredible story which it tells, it’s hard to look at these old lyrics by Warning and feel down with it. But I’ll absolutely be looking for this one for my collection. Thanks for sharing. And glad to see you posting on here as of recent! Good to see your posts~

Thanks man! Glad to see you up with all the music threads. Great job.
I really like the somber and melodramatic sound of Warning without them being anything like Candlemass. It really hits hard.
Will look further into some recommendations when I have the time.

Xibalba posted these guys once and I really enjoyed it. Usually not a Doomguy.

The Moth Gatherer - Esoteric Oppression. Not much of a doom man myself, but I'll give it a shot if I'm interested enough. This works perfectly for the type of morning I have: overcast and rainy.

Book of Wyrms: A Doom/Stoner metal band. Sometimes this hybrid is exactly what hits the spot for me. Sometimes it’s a miss. This is a big hit. Also, look at that album artwork. One of my favorite pieces of art of the year so far. This is a female-fronted band, which is not something I’m usually into (no offense to women, because women are awesome, but I tend to prefer male vocalists in metal). This one just works so well. I could lay a musical comparison out there with Windhand, but Windhand is a bit more repetitive than this band in some ways. This band has some rather masterful guitar work and wonderful transitions. There is this mix of 70’s metal in the guitars at times, giving it a psychedelic feel without being too much. There are many beautiful moments and addicting riffs to be enjoyed. Get into it!

Classic Doom was always tough for me to get into, but Swedish Melodic Doom is a no brainer.
Swallow The Sun is my all time favourite.
Ghosts of Loss stands out as my fav by them, but they have a diverse discography.

Crypt Sermon: I believe I opened this thread with a song of theirs from the previous album. The new album is killer. This will be in my top 10 albums of 2019, even though I also know it won’t be my number one. This is the closer track. The vocals are more diverse on this record than the previous one. At times, the dude even sounds like Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. But He also still knows how to keep things very Candlemassy, like he did on the whole previous record. Great band, great songwriting, great lyrics, great everything. Really check out the lyrics to this song, you’ll find it very engaging.

Red Scalp: okay, file this under Doom/Stoner/Rock because it belongs in all of those areas, but this is my introduction to Red Scalp and I am pretty impressed by this. This is a real great jam, bluesy and full of feel-good moments. Second half is just a big jam session, which includes a lot of saxophone as well. Really fun to listen to!

Honestly the only doom band I even like anymore is Thou but even then they play too long omfg when I read it I remembered of something that happened at Fluff Fest in Czech Republic last summer. My friends and I went for a walk to a forest in the middle of the night. We heard some slow metal band playing a gig in the background. It felt so unreal, dark and the echo and distant sounds were evil af. It was creeping us out but in a cool way. Turned out it was Thou. LIVE. I'll never forget that moment and I'd love to experience something like that again so yeah, my fav doom metal band is fucking Thou
