Honestly, I almost didn't renew the domain name before it expired at the end of July. I just don't see the point in keeping this place running when everyone just posts in the shoutbox. If you want to do that, use the Discord link in the navbar at the top.
In the past month we've only had 40 or more posts in a single day three times. Just three. The most being 61 on July 25th. With the amount of members we have, we should breaking 100 posts everyday. But we don't because all you guys do is post in the shoutbox.
Go to the bottom of the forum index and look at the "Users Online in the Last 24 Hours" section. 160 different people have visited the forum in the past 24 hours. There's been 11 posts in the past 24 hours.

I generally don’t care for the shoutbox, so I’m not bothered at all. I hope that it does raise more activity in the forum. I just don’t know if closing the shoutbox will increase activity or not. I have doubts. Logging in multiple times throughout the day to see nothing new to discuss or comment on makes it hard for me to be more active, although I’m generally active. I want it to be more like it was though. Maybe the shift away from immediate downloads is quite responsible for a lack of posts, but also people aren’t gaining an incentive to become active posters if they have instant access to many downloads. At best, many of them will result in complaining about broken links or albums that they deem lousy. So yeah, it’s a tough call, but I don’t know if I would be part of this if it was reduced to nothing more than a shoutbox.

The shoutbox was annoying cos you could only see so much of a conversation. This is a far superior idea.

I've always been part of the crowd who doesn't really guage the success of the forum based on how many users we have or how many posts we get. This place has always been a safe place for me and I always check in and hang out. Whether that means checking out the shoutbox, posting in a thread, or just reading what everyone is talking about. People who only use the shoutbox will just only use this thread and all the other sections of the board will still be just as barren. But I respect The Matt Reptar and I want what is best for this forum and welcome trying this out.  |

Excellent choice.
The shoutbox should come back... in time. Not now. This was a good executive move and i'm behind it 100%. While you can't necessarily force conversation, this is the next best thing. This is why i called it out earlier this week.

The ironic thing was I was just about to post in the shoutbox and ask why the random thoughts thread was locked, and then I scrolled down and started reading through this.
I like the idea of trying to foster more of a sense of community and hopefully convince the lurkers it’s OK to be a part of the conversation, and time will tell if this will become a good idea or not. Fingers crossed, boyos.
