I hardly felt this year, as it went insanely fast for me. I am kept so busy at work that I hardly have time to notice what day or time it is. On that note, I signed the contract and have accepted a new job teaching in Shanghai at Shanghai Community International School! I'm super happy because it means I'll finally have a job that allows me to stay in Shanghai all week long instead of commuting back home from Kunshan every weekend. I'll get to be a daily dad and husband, as opposed to only two days a week. hmm...I may wish for my freedom two weeks into it, but we'll see. HAHA!

Merry Christmas, marshers. Hope you got to spend it with your families, but more importantly, acquired some cool shit.

Merry Christmas~ gotta be honest, I’ve never had an ounce of Christmas spirit. It’s funny though, I also never had any sensations about the meaning of family either. Christmas Day was always a day in my childhood spent alone with new video games and Papa John’s pizza because my my mom always had to work on Christmas.
Now I live in China and spend much of my non working days with my wife’s parents and of course my kid. Now that my boy is 2, he’s starting to get holidays and I’m also finding myself more spirited for it. Haha! Mom just reminded me that she deposited $750 for me to spend for Christmas. I think I’ll start looking for the coolest toys for my little guy.

One of the things I’ve come to love about living in Shanghai is that I have access to a unique variety of restaurants and stores that are harder to access back home. For example, I not only have a choice to get coffee from Starbucks like back home, but the Canadian export, Time Horton’s Coffee is fairly popular here as well. I’ve recently been getting coffee there a lot. Which raises a big question I have for fellow marshers:
For those of you who have had both Tim Horton’s AND Starbucks coffee, what do you guys prefer? I must admit, after having Tim Hortons several times after a lot of Starbucks experiences, I prefer Tim Horton’s!

Starbucks is very good but to me it's not worth the extra price.

Glad to hear you say you like it more than Starbucks. Here in Canada, Tim Hortons is a religion haha. This just made my day! haha

Never been. Anything I should try out? Besides coffee, I can’t drink that stuff.

Nearly the equivalent of $5 for a “tall” Americano is no bueno. Tim’s is a little cheaper and has better coffee options. I’m betting Wawa is pretty good. One thing I miss about Arizona is the small coffee joints and smaller local chains. Those were the best. Especially one in Chandler I went to a lot before moving to China called Peixoto. Their coffee is magic in a cup.

They just opened one behind the apartment community that my in-laws live in. And I live with them on weekends, so I go to Tim’s a lot now. Starbucks is slightly closer to our front door, just across the street directly, but I’ll gladly take the extra walk to the backside of the block for Tim’s! I’m hoping they become a competitive influence and start taking over, as there are way too many Starbucks spots here!

If you don’t like coffee you won’t really change that after having theirs though. Haha

If you don’t like coffee you won’t really change that after having theirs though. Haha As for Timmies, not sure the selection they've got going in countries abroad but here in Canada, they have really started pushing the fast food aspect and started selling wraps, chicken strips and sandwiches.... I'm not a fan of that. I grew up with Timmies just being a good ol cheap coffee and donut shop and I still believe that where it's at it's best. So I'd recommend a Double Chocolate Donut or a Cinnamon Raisin bagel with Plain cream cheese. That's my go to. It's nice to go get my large coffee in the morning and it's only 2.25 compared to Starbucks at $5+ Also, not sure how it goes abroad, but in Canada we have different names for coffee purely from Tim's. You can get a Double Double, Triple Triple or Regular. (Double Double = 2 sugar 2 cream, Regular = 1 & 1, etc...)
