Final Fantasy VII Remake is an upcoming action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 4. It is the first part of a series of multiple releases and is scheduled for 3 March 2020. Gameplay is planned to combine real-time action similar to Dissidia Final Fantasy with other strategic elements.

I was just watching the extended commercial for this game and got really excited. Surprised there wasn't already a thread for it. Who else is hyped?

I’m an incredibly mixed bag about this release. One month I’ll say I’m definitely buying, the next month I’m not. The reality for me is that I’m a huge fan of the PSOne era turn-based RPGs, especially FF7-9, and that is the style I will forever adore. Once FF and other rpgs became more action oriented, I found it less and less appealing. The main reason I’m not sold on this release personally is that I was absolutely blown away by the advertisements of Final Fantasy 15, as it was a beautiful and imaginative experience, but the gameplay feel and storytelling was so different for me that I just couldn’t really connect with it. It felt so far removed from my beloved old school FF games.
I am expecting this remake to feel a bit like 15, and that turns me off a bit. On the other side, I know this game’s story already, and I’d love to experience it in a different way. Just not sure if this is going to work for me or not.

For me it felt like it should've been a great game but the emotional connection wasn't there. It looked like they'd built this incredible world but the story didn't have the depth of 7-9 and the characters didn't really undergo any development. At least with this it's going to be done over several instalments and they already have great characters to work with. One thing I'm praying for is that they allow Japanese audio with English subtitles. The American voice actors on the trailer sound fucking terrible.

Just pre-ordered this. The demo looked and sounded beautiful, although I wasn't blown away by the gameplay. I had to switch my console language to Japanese to get Japanese audio with English subtitles which wasn't ideal. Hoping the digital download comes with language choices in the menus.

Feel like I’m one of the only people who has never actually played the original... really looking forward to this I haven’t played it yet as well. Oh you guys... I’m not gonna be one of those guys who has beaten it over and over and tries to convince you it’s the only way to experience FF7, but it sure is good. And I’d wager if you prefer turn based rpgs over action oriented rpgs, you’ll prefer the original, because I certainly prefer turn based and as awesome as FFXV looked, I hated the feel of it so much I just couldn’t stick with it after several hours searching for something for me to get attached to. But the visuals of the original are jarringly ugly by today’s standards, which was also the reason I struggled to stick with it the first two or three times I tried to play through the original. My first time playing the original was only a year after it came out, but my first time past the first disc and ultimately beating it was nearly 15 years later. At that point in my life, game visuals were not of importance to me anymore, and still aren’t. I proceeded to beat the game again the next summer, and again the next summer. It’s so good, and the hole in the story might not actually be a hole. Every time I replay it, I keep trying to piece it together looking for clues from the beginning. This gives it a fascinating amount of replay value for me.

I ordered this off Amazon so I probably won't get it on release day, but I'm super excited for this! I've never played the original game so I started playing it recently. I just got to Junon so I'm not very far, but I already love these characters. Tifa has officially become a top tier waifu for me. After I played through the game a bit I saw why this specific entry has garnered so much love. But also being brand new to it I can also see a lot of the cracks (Fort Condor I'm looking at you!) and things that didn't age well. Once I played the demo of the Remake I was smiling ear-to-ear like a doofus. I hope that is how people feel who love this entry, but judging from some of the review I've skimmed, it seems like they may have added a bit too much for some people. Overall they deserve a hug pat on the back for the remodeled characters, environments, and combat system. Those alone in the Remake seem worth the price of entry. Super excited to play the full Remake and finish the original to have a better opinion on what this game means to video gaming history and culture overall. essien I hope you post your thoughts in here so I can read them.

Will do! It's a weird experience, playing a reimagining of something so iconic. I think I'll need some time to process what I actually think about it, but I feel like they've done a great job with the characters and world, and it's undeniably beautiful to look at. Good news is they have Japanese voice acting available, bad news is the subtitles are localised. I can live with it.
