Alright fellas, let's get into it: 1. What direction do you think this could have taken if the wife had been pronounced braindead or actually died?
2. What specific moment stood out to you?
3. Several notable films recently have employed noticably stiff, awkward acting. What benefits or potential drawbacks can you see in this odd performance style?
4. Have you ever known a manipulative person like our protagonist? What was that like?

4. Have you ever known a manipulative person like our protagonist? What was that like? 1. I was thinking about that early in the film, as either i missed or wasn't paying attention to what her condition and its severity was (and realized it later of course). I assumed she was a vegetable or something for a while. Well, gosh, i mean how long could he have milked that? Forever right? Maybe that's why i was disengaged with the first half of the movie as i was thinking "wait, how long is this gonna go on?" 2. Oh it's the dog. That just put me over the edge. Knowing he was so demented as to do that, and still ask for sympathy... man. 3. It's hard to get into! You immediately know it's comedic, purposeful or not, so it can be hard to take anything seriously when you see people acting in an unrealistic manner. But at the same time, they makes impactful moments even better because they can come so suddenly and brazenly. 4. I did! I was married to her! Baaa...zing!!

I'm not even convinced he loved her all that much, or at least he didn't seem overly bothered about his situation other than playing on it when talking to others. 2. Easily the bit on the boat in the ocean. What the hell. 3. Well you either get Napoleon Dynamite v2, or it works well and you find the character more intriguing as they're not like people you know. All depends on the plot I guess? 4. Yeah which is one of the reasons I struggled with this film initially. My mother in law is very much like him - loves to moan about her situation and manipulates people to get what she wants. It's really tough to live with and ends up in plenty of arguments over the years

4. Have you ever known a manipulative person like our protagonist? What was that like? 1. I think he becomes more addicted to the pity of others as the film goes on, so I'm not sure he would have been very pleased with that outcome initially. In any case, I think it would have made for a less interesting film since he could have used that as his source of pity basically forever. 2. I was going to say the dog on the boat until the end (god bless). For me, it was the protagonist (does he even have a name?) going as far as to kill his father and wife. Genuinely surprised me. 3. I was actually thinking about this quite a bit while watching and was trying to remember other films with a similar acting style. I think it helps to underscore the fact that the characters in these types of films are generally unusual and socially inept. On the other hand, yes, it is weird and can come across as unintentionally comedic. 4. Honestly, no. Pretty weird film overall, and I don't mean that in either a good or bad way. It seemed longer than it actually was and I thought it dragged a bit in the first half. 3/5 from me.
