So where are the good KL alternatives? Anyone have a list of decent sites with a similar set up (click to dl albums) etc?

It really feels like download sites in general are slowing down and becoming less a thing. However... Thelastdisaster suddenly came back again and started posting! That’s a site to watch, although it seems a slow start so far. I’m part of the KL discord, and IIRC somebody on there is actually on TheLastDisaster and he said they were kicking around shutting down but they decided to keep going.

To their credit, KL actually posted a popup that gave links to multiple sites where one may sate their musical taste, so if anything, start with those; I did bookmark a few. I totally missed this and was super bummed this morning when I was doing my weekly roundup and tried going to KL Anyone have any links to share? Mainly looking for more hip hop blogs that curate a bit more than some of the others that post every mixtape, but also liked the indie rock selection and random pop albums on KL

Kingdom Leaks was probably the first download site I was part in an active way. Toxic community led their ending among other problems that most download sites suffer (paying servers, posting so many new music, dealing with copyright and legal things). It's a shame but that's just life.

That’s not surprising if accurate. Thelastdisaster was really great up until their inactive months. Since coming back, they haven’t posted quite on the same level (not even close at the current time) but they did just do some design upgrades and make a news announcement about future updates so it’s a possible sign of commitment to making TLD a good site, hopefully worthy of KL followers’ notice.

I'm not downloading music anymore, but I used KL almost daily to get information about new releases. I discovered dozens of unknown/lesser known bands there, so I'll miss it so much.

Yeah, I’ll rarely download nowadays; 9 times out of 10 over the past several months I was using kL to find out bands/albums I didn’t hear about and then I would go into Bandcamp and see if they were there; if they were, then I’d add them to my wishlist and check them out

Definitely losing the discovery of music that site provided. Not as large/impactful from a total music community but the shutdown does remind me a bit of losing Oink.

For what it’s worth, the last disaster did survive the first month (they seem to operate under a monthly donation requirement now) and they just recently picked up the pace on their posts a noticeable bit. Go check out the site if you haven’t. They seem to post a variety not too different from Kingdomleaks at the moment. Would still like to see an increase in posts but it’s at least growing. thelastdisaster.org/
