Coming into this thread I knew Ghost Bath were gonna be mentioned lmao. I don't think they're overrated, hell, I don't think they're even rated lol I haven't met a single fan since getting into them.
For me though its gotta be, and I know I'll probably get flak lol, its Between the Buried and Me. I won't knock their talent but I can't seem to ...digest them? Then again that's how I feel about most Prog. Krimewatch too. Everyone I know who's listened to Krimewatch always mentions how raw they are and how what they're doing for punk is "necessary for our scene today" but I don't fucking see it or hear it. More power to them though.
never understood the hype around a day to remember or parkway drive
Gotta admit I have an enormous soft spot for both of these bands, but I get it. ADTR should be lame but somehow isn't. For Those Who Have Heart was so revolutionary when it first hit that you just couldn't help but pay attention. They're not at all what they used to be but I'm happy for their success, and I know some hard ass hardcore dudes who still rock them lol. Parkway in the end is pretty generic, they took me longer to get into. They just do what they do really well, until the latest record they maintained a really good balance of accessibility and adherence to their original sound. With Ire they've made a point of displaying that era of Parkway is over and that they are doing the obligatory "moving forward" thing bands do when they realize how much money they could really be making. Good for them for pulling it off without being Attila though.
i mean, i'm not saying i never listened to them and enjoyed some of their songs, it just seems so dumb how much hype they get when all they do is put out mediocre songs that all somehow sound the same (except for ires songs ye lol). it's just not clear to me how especially these two became the "entry"-bands for the genre when everything they do is... a bit lame and repetetive and there's so many better bands out there making actual cool and innovative music
anyway brb listening and singing along to some old adtr songs
Disliking a Band or There Fans ≠ A Band Being Over Rated
Does it? Is It?
Does the thread need renaming to "what bands do you not like that are popular?"
pls someone break it down for my small brain
Well it's pretty much fans that cause a band to become "rated" or "overrated"(which is just personal opinion more then anything) so yea i mean without masses of people liking them or loads of praise in zines and online they wouldn't be considered overrated. But yea i'll hate on loads of bands but always remember that for every band i say i've heard it all before/some one else does it better its someone elses first time being exposed to that style so for them the band will never get enough praise.
