A little thin in the narrative department, but the action and visuals were good. Really liked what they did with the Vietnam backdrop instead of the '30s setting from the other Kong movies. 4/5

Dammit, I am suppose to see it tonight. Was it as bad as Under The Skin? Scarlett sure has made some duds over the years but god damn I still love her. I thought it was worse than Under The Skin. I can only say coming from a fan of the original material though. I went in knowing 0 about Under The Skin and thought it was at least decent. Ghost in The Shell just made me upset lol Personally really enjoyed Under the Skin.

Grown Ups 2
1/5
Not entirely sure why I was expecting better, but I kinda liked the first film.

I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it or just didn't understand it but my god I thought it was one of the worst films I have ever seen. Maybe I should give it a re-watch?

I watched it as a weird ass unsettling art house movie and that's what I got. I think because it had a Hollywood A-lister with ScarJo people might have expected something more conventional?

Ghost in the Shell (2017)Shamefully I never saw the original Ghost in the Shell. My only experience with the intellectual property prior was a few episodes of the anime on Adult Swim. I can definitely see why people thought the movie was shallow. I personally really enjoyed it. It felt more like an introduction to a world and I felt the best parts were at the very end. I want to see more of these characters and in this world. I would hope that if they are able to make a sequel they really dive into the themes explored and focus on the Section 9 team, which was easily the best part of the film. I'm also a sucker for Scarlett Johansson and Michael Pitt though and loved both of their characters. After seeing the movie I literally have no excuse to check out the original now. I'm sure the original is hands and feet above the live action version but as a casual fan I thought it was a decent introduction to the world. It would be shame if they don't go forward with it because of its poor performance at the box office. Rating: 7.5/10

I really only tried to get a comparison because of Scarlett.

La La Land. It was ok and I can get the mainstream hype but it didn't really do anything for me.
I've seen all the best picture nominees from this year now. My ranking:
1. Manchester by the Sea 2. Moonlight 3. Hacksaw Ridge 4. Arrival 5-9. Everything else
