Anyone here play Magic? If so, how long have you been playing? What formats do you play? What decks do you like to play in those formats? What's your favourite card? Let's get some Magic discussion going! As for myself, I've been playing for about 5 years now. I mostly play Legacy, Modern and EDH. My main decks in those formats are Food Chain, Abzan Midrange and Karador respectively, but I have a pretty large collection so I'm often switching up my decks

I used to play a lot back in middle-high school, but that was in the late 90's early 2000's. Fucking wish I knew where those cards were though I stopped into a magic shop a few months back and saw how much some of my old cards were going for...

Used to play a bit in highschool. I still have my Kithkin, Merfolk, and Elvish Predation theme decks (but I sucked with them).
I remember some dude decimated me with this squirrel token deck that kept summoning more and more tokens until he just ended me with 20+ tokens attacking all at once.
I've been thinking about getting back into it, but mainly to see if I could make a side hustle on it by selling cards online. How's the market for it?

I think the deck you're talking about is the Earthcraft + Squirrel Nest deck. You can make infinite Squirrel tokens with that combo. Also, I'd definitely recommend getting back into it, but don't expect to make a lot of money selling cards unless you're willing to put in a ton of work.

Yeah I remember he kept doing some combo to keep bringing more and more out I would like to get back in it, but I don't have any RL friends that play magic anymore. Would probably have to go by the nearest card shop to find people to practice with, but I know those guys always have like hundreds (if not thousands) already invested into the game. I think that's why I picked up hearthstone since it's so casual like that, but I hate not truly owning and being able to trade my cards.

Hoooooooooly shit, I've been wanting to make this thread but I was almost sure that it wouldn't get some traction. I myself played a bit in HS but REALLY got into it when Return to Ravnica released. I love this game and I've been to my local GS FridayNightMagic. I've been playing Minotaur tribal and Mono-Black with this latest Amonkhet release. I play Magic Duels on Steam as well if anyone ever wants to have a match. I took some time off with Kaladesh though so the meta for me is kinda messed up.

If you have a card shop nearby, you should go there and ask if they do drafts/sealed tournaments. Essentially in those formats you open a bunch of packs and build a deck out of what you open. It's a really good way to get back into the game since it puts everyone on a level playing field even if you don't own any cards. Plus you get to keep the cards you open, so you can start building a collection that way. Nice I noticed your name but I wasn't sure if it was a reference to MTG or not haha. I've never actually tried duels, I'll usually play on xmage or Cockatrice instead since they're free and they include all the cards. Have you played any formats other than standard?

Standard and I dabbled in Edh with an R/W Gisela Aggro and Krenko Moblin. Modern and Vintage are too rich for my blood plus Pauper is a little too boring to me. A friend of mine made a cube before but all these weird rules.

I play and have loads of cards, it sucks though, cause all my friends i played with live back in Saskatoon, and when I moved to Calgary I was pretty much the only person I knew who played. Now I buy a fat pack of the new sets, and occasionally build decks, but don't play unless i go back to Saskatoon (usually to visit family, get tattooed, etc). I do really like Amonkhet it's a pretty dope set.

Always was kind of interested but never played it in rl. Started to play the online version a while ago and don't know why I stopped.

So I stopped by my local shop today. The guy running the place was super helpful, I showed him all my cards and he kind of recommended a deck I should pursue based on the ones I already had. They have free modern format tournaments Thursdays and Fridays, so I'll probably stop by again next week. Working towards this Merfolk deck now MTG Goldfish Merfolk

I used to play Modern/Legacy/Standard with my buddies before they moved. So, the last set I physically owned was Dragons of Tarkir. Now we moved on to building decks on Tabletop Sim. Saves a lot of money that's for sure.

Merfolk is a great deck to start with! It's fairly cheap, easy to learn and it's actually really strong. If you ever want to get in some practice games on xmage or cockatrice let me know! (They're both free)
