It's time for a new phone. I'm so tired of Apple's limitations. Should I switch to galaxy? What I'd really like to be able to do is download files directly to my phone and open them. DL a zip file, open it, extract mp3s and play them. Is that too much to ask?

I like Apple products so even though the limitation you mentioned, I still voted for it. Also I never needed the unzip option, so I guess that's why I am leaning towards that. I am not a big fan of Samsung, or rather android in general. But also I despise Samsung as a company, so there's that.

I've only ever had iPhones since smartphones became a thing, so I can't speak for the other brands. Just beware of what switching might involve (moving your contacts over, new cloud service, losing all your apps and stuff, having to get used to a new UI, losing integration with any other Apple products you own). I was strongly considering a Google Pixel before I got my 7 but ended up just sticking to what I knew because it seemed less of a risk.

I had a Samsung Galaxy a few years ago and it was, by far, the worst phone I've ever owned. I don't know much about other Droid phones, but stay away from Samsung imo.

I've had my Pixel since it came out, absolutely 0 complaints love this device. Was going to get the pixel 2 when it came out but I need a 3.5mm port in my life so I'll have this phone for awhile.

Samsung, Google, and LG are all quality Android choices.
I should probably say I have a Galaxy S7. Put it in my pocket with a piece of quartz and it got destroyed the first month or so I had it. Dealt with the fucked up screen for about 5 months and then it randomly stopped working. Got the screen replaced and its been good , but since its a phone sandwich had to take it to Sprint for repair because the things are glued together. One thing I can do is plug it directly into my computer and move 15 gigs of music from my collection to it without a second thought, or vice versa.

I have an s7. Love it. Only android phone thats lasted me 2 years with no issues. Only problem is, I work in a shop. I broke the camera lens when it fell on a tool. Takes super blurry photos now but thats my fault and not the phones.
Planning on upgrading to the s9 soon though.
Should add I've owned HTC M8: Fantastic phone with great speakers but heated up so much that the glue opened up the phone from the screen. LG G4: Great phone as well, until the bootloop issues started and I would send it off for repair and would never get fixed. Galaxy s6: Great phone and used as my daily till I got the s7.

There was an under the radar class action suit that i didnt get a chance to get on but they reimbursed the full worth of the phone at retail price.

Phone game is at a pretty crappy place right now. Not a fan of Apple or Samsung.
If you want to go for a non-customizable, over hyped, no headphone, notched, face unlocked security vulnerable phone. Go with Apple.
Unfortunately, Android OEM seems to think it is a good idea to mock missing headphone jacks and the notch right now.
Samsung seems to be the only OEM who is listening to what people are saying. They have my recommendation as of now.

I just bought a Blackberry Classic because I can't stand touchpad typing. I haven't used it yet because I need to activate service but when I do I'll let you know how it is.

I almost bought a Galaxy S8+ today but I didn't want to put a downpayment of 300$. I've been dying to get a new phone since my battery on my iPhone 6s is dying. it literally lasts a good two hours if I'm browsing the internet or using any app. its pretty much garbage.
Im just so afraid to switch to android because I'm not use to the UI and every android phone I've ever had (neither have been LG or Samsung) has been the worst phone I've ever owned. my friend tells me galaxy would be my best bet if I decided to not have an iPhone anymore.

So I had my Blackberry Classic activated and I'm loving it! The insane frustration of touchpad typing is finally gone. The screen is a bit smaller to make room for the keypad but I don't mind it at all. I never thought I would actually ever be stoked about a cell phone but I literally am.

Honestly the UI isn't anything you're going to be hugely unaware of, it's a phone and shares a lot of similarities with IOS, it's very intuitive and when you get your hands on it you can really get a lot more out of an Android device than you can an iphone imo. That's not to say I think iphones are shit, they are very nice devices and in fact they are the perfect device for a ton of people, but for me it's Android, my last iphone was like the 4s which on a side note has been a fantastic ipod since I turned it off.
