The Crown: This Swedish Melodic Death/Thrash band have been around for quite a long time. While it was unexpected for them to keep churning out high quality releases, they've really done it again! I know my tastes in metal are different from most of you, especially with my distaste for anything-core, but I do truly believe this album has something special to offer to most of you on here. This song has a really cool vibe that I think you'll all dig. The production on this album is killer, the tunes are all very different, ranging from speedy blasters and slower and heavier chugging songs like this one. I freaking love the melodic guitar solo work in the middle of this song. Feels so good. At least our tastes aren’t terribly different... Hahaha! I probably mention my different tastes too much, but I don't feel like people really care about the same music I care about here for the most part. And now I don't really care about that anyway. I'm just sharing things that I think people might be interested in that I like. Cheers

You know I’m dipping into OSDM and DM, and I don’t mind “regular” metal at all; I just don’t have much of an affinity for BM or HEAVY doses of power metal

Some of the bands that mix cleans with death growls are ok, like for instance in Scandinavian bands like Dark Tranquility, or Soilwork, I can get into cleans, but that soaring vocal line over and over in most power metal is a huge turn off for me.

It’s a good list. Vio-lence don’t belong on that list however, as they are as Thrash as it comes. If you’re interested in a few more to check or consider for further listing, here are three great ones I didn’t recall seeing: Jumpin’ Jesus- The Art of Crucifying (I personally love this one) Inquisitor- Walpurgis- Sabbath of Lust (some of the most memorable vocals ever) Accidental Suicide- Deceased (okay, I like this one considerably less, but it’s a popular lesser known album of old school death)

I’ll see if I can track them down on Soulseek.

Probably a little too much -core for you @stringyboo, but on the flipside this is more of the "brutal death metal" style I don't always like and I'm pretty into this one. Just the right touches of bounce and axe-shredding.

Just the right touches of bounce and axe-shredding. You probably know my tastes pretty well at this point. haha! I don't usually like most things Slam Worldwide posts on their Youtube, but I've had a few exceptions. This one here is one of the more impressive sounding bands they've posted from my memory. I like the guitar work quite a bit. The only thing that I didn't care for was the higher vocals that dominated sections of the song. I liked the lower range vocals more. I'm not going to go out of my way to hear the rest of the album, but this does sound good.

Inoculation: I just did a review for this one which will eventually be posted on Metalcrypt. This 2021 release is a Death Metal trio from Cleveland, Ohio. Alien and outer-space themes are the general focus of the band, and the music somewhat feels connected to that idea. What's great about this band and this release is how many different riffs they pack into one song, never sitting on a single riff for too long. It makes the listening fun and dynamic. Also, all three members contributed vocals to this album, although this song does not seem to show off the drummer's vocals in particular. v9733xa, now that you have shown me that Asterion band, I'm just a bit curious what you make of a band such as this one here. Anyway, yeah, I really enjoyed this record a lot. Some hints of Skeletal Remains and to a lesser extent some Cannibal Corpse feels here and there, although not a big CC presence in their overall sound.

I'm not sure if I could listen to a whole album of that though. That's what gets me about a lot of death metal, that it sounds droning and repetitive although I know that's a reductive and ill-informed opinion. But that's not bad.

That Frozen Soul album was quite solid, I thought. Def will have to revisit it down the line in the ensuing months. I revisited it recently and it rips, I guess my bolt thrower phase I was going through at the time was too strong lmao
