Yep, I streamed this album the other day. I loved how clean and yet articulate the guitar action was. A little more treble than I like for death metal, but absolutely a stunner. The last track really rules.

Drawn and Quartered: Although there's already a review up for this band's latest album on the site I write for, I'm about to send in another review for it because I just can't get enough of it. I talked up the new Cannibal Corpse record, which is absolutely one of their best ever, but this right here is a fierce competitor in the same subgenre that I am completely in love with. This album is largely fast and chaotic, with really low and deep vocals that are slightly distant, putting the instruments a bit more forward. It makes the vocals sound like a threatening beast in the distance amidst a whirlwind of sonic chaos. The guitar leads and riffs on this thing are insane, some of the best I've ever heard in the style, and I think this one will go down as a modern classic in death metal.

Wizardthrone: This one is a genre catastrophe that fits many tags, but it mostly fits in the Death Metal tag overall. This is symphonic, melodic Death Metal with Black Metal leanings. For anyone familiar with Bal-Sagoth (Such an underground Symphonic Black Metal band is rarely known, so I don't really expect anyone to know this actually lol!), this ticks a lot of the same checkboxes. There is a great sense of storytelling like with Bal-Sagoth, containing frequent narration within tracks. The story is a bit blurry in my head at the moment, despite having listened to the album 6 or 7 times now. But if I were to relate this to anything most people like or listen to, The Black Dahlia Murder would probably be the most nearest massively known comparison musically, although this is way more expansive than TBDM in scope and writing style. The main thing to really know here, though, is that this band is the project of Christopher Bowes of Alestorm, and is much in the same vision as his other project, the Power Metal band Gloryhammer, for which I am also about to post because it is surprisingly awesome.

Tombstoner: Okay, this one should appeal to a few of you guys. Tombstoner combine Death metal with hardcore tones and stylings to create somewhat of a hybrid that I actually love, even though I don't like hardcore at all. The first few moments of this track are straight up Death Metal, but keep listening and you'll hear the secondary vocal style and a very heavy, hardcore-esque breakdown. This is like the Power Trip were similar advocates of hardcore and Thrash Metal, and this band here seems aimed to do the same but within the Death Metal context. Go get this! It's great.

Aenigmatum: Here's a band I've only recently gotten familiar with. This band's approach is a bit melodic and sometimes technical, combining active riffs with tremolo riffed textures. The drums are quite fun and creative at times. Fretless bass stands out in the mix. Excellent guitar solos decorate the album, and here's a good track to give anyone an idea what this band is about. v9733xa since you liked Ophidian I, I won't be surprised if you like this one, although this is less technical and clean than Ophidian I. Overall, this approach to Death Metal is less in my interest zone, but I'm finding that it doesn't matter and I'm listening to this album a lot. Not an old school Death metal album at all.

They were featured on technicaldeathmetal.org/ the other week and now I have both of their albums! One day I will listen to them. Thanks for thinking of me.

WHARFLURCH: Really filthy, heavy, and super catchy Death Metal in the vein of Cerebral Rot, Tomb Mold, and the like. Apparently their name must be all capitals? As irritating as that is, it's forgivable given the massive qualities found on this disc. Definitely go check this out!

Checked out new releases from Revulsion (Finland) and Black Hole Deity and both ripped quite well; if they stay strong, I can see them making my "best of" year end list, albeit not in the top 10...

The albums for which you didn’t do a write-up, are those the ones you haven’t gotten to yet? If so, there are quite a few gems left for you to get to. Although my favorites on this list are largely well-known (for a damn good reason), some of the lesser known albums like that of Jumpin’ Jesus are great too. Altars of Madness might be my favorite death metal album of all time. Used to be Entombed’s Left Hand Path. Autopsy’s Mental Funeral is definitely in my top 10 as well, but I would actually put Autopsy's Macabre Eternal in there as the best Autopsy album, my personal preference.

You are correct, sir; the albums that are blank I have yet to get to, but don't worry, I will get to them.
