Which is your favourite release by Architects and why?
People seem to enjoy these polls so I'll keep them going on a weekly basis. For me it's a really close call between Hollow Crown and their latest two albums. I'm going with Hollow Crown for now but I'm going to have to go back and listen to them all.
inb4 some hipster votes for Nightmares.

Very difficult. I think I enjoyed LF//LT more as an album but some of the songs in AOGHAU are just absolutely amazing. I loved some of Hollow Crown as well, but it's not up to the standards of the last two.

A good, consistent band. They have changed their sound a little bit and softened up, but i like their recent stuff too.
I'm going to have to go with Hollow Crown, the last release where i would still call them a real metal band.

Since I've only heard Hollow Crown, The Here and Now, and Daybreaker, I don't feel qualified enough to vote in this pole. Not to mention, I've not listened to them honestly for about 3 or more years. Probably more than that.
Although Hollow Crown always seemed to be the favorite of the earlier to mid era, my favorite was always and still will be The Here And Now. Melodically, I thought it was the most outstanding. When I listen to metalcore/post-hardcore, I'm usually doing it to take a break from all the Metal I listen to, so melodic drive is my main reason for going to bands like these.

I came in on LF//LT, and kept on with AOGHAU, but I have, and intend to listen to their back catalog. Until I do, I’m going to cast my vote for All Our Gods...; as much as I enjoyed LF//LT, the realization that much of the lyrical themes in AOGHAU spun around mortality and that Tom died either right before or right after the album’s release impart the album with much more depth and meaning. Every time I spin it I’m amazed by the collective whole that it is.

This is an easy one for me - Hollow Crown. Absolute beast of a record.
I think everything they've done since is massively overrated. I'll go back and listen to them and explain why later.

I do enjoy listening to Nightmares and I can totally see why its the 'Architects were so much better in the old days'-type hipster thing to say, but they were essentially a different band back then with a different vocalist, different sound and wanted to be the UK Botch back then.
Best song: They'll Be Hanging Us Tonight, closely followed by The Darkest Tomb
Interesting fact: The original vocalist (Matt Johnson) went on to form a band with members of Johnny Truant (Great band) and Centurion called Whitemare.

I find Ruin a bit of a generic release. You can clearly hear them heading towards the Hollow Crown direction, especially on tracks like 'Running From The Sun', but it lacks any real distinction from one song to the next. I couldn't even pick out a favourite on this record as they all blend together. One plus is that the production is much better, and Sam Carter features on the entire record without doing any clean vocals.
Hollow Crown on the other hand has clear distinction between songs, the introduction (but not over-reliance on) of clean vocals, punishing breakdowns, awesome production (Those guitars sound so beefy), and an enjoyability factor that I don't they've matched since. The order of songs gives the album a bit of breathing space as its starts off blistering, has a slower but still heavy middle and ends with a bang.
Favourite tracks: Numbers Count For Nothing, We're All Alone
I can't even listen to The Here and Now. It's such a step down from Hollow Crown that it feels like an insult, especially songs like 'Heartburn'.
Dayseeker feels like a slight step up from THAN with more electronics. It's not particularly memorable and also feels like a struggle to get through.

I find it difficult to choose between the first three. I'd probably go for Nightmares then Hollow Crown then Ruin. I actually find that Hollow Crown has several songs which aren't memorable at all and Ruin definitely has some filler tracks, whereas every note of every song from Nightmares is seared into my brain.
That said, Early Grave is without a doubt my favourite song ever, so it's difficult to rate down the album that has that on (and North Lane is probably up there too!).
The Here And Now was actually an album I was very into when it came out (which was exactly when I started getting into metalcore) but god it's difficult to listen to now. Daybreaker has some absolutely killer leads and atmospheres and manages to stay surprisingly interesting. LF//LT has no impact on me apart from the first three songs (and that riff in Youth Is Wasted On The Young). AOGHAU is alright I guess but feels like a total rehash of LF//LT.
Considering I call Architects my favourite band and have 10+ shirts of theirs, I do spend a remarkable amount of time slagging off their last 8 years of music.... I probably just am one of those hipsters who prefers their early stuff

They were a proper tech-metal-type band for the first 3 records, then they did a little dance with the post-hardcore crowd, then combined the two for the last 3 records.

I'm not a big fan of later albums, they all are almost the same to me. There's no unique sound, just the boring riffs and blearghs... Everything what makes Hollow Crown special, has disappeared during the years. So my vote went for Hollow Crown.

The weirdo who voted for The Here and Now needs to make themselves known.
