Umm, ok. Let’s go with this. I had never been a Bowie fan until 2-3 years ago when a friend of mine really encouraged (re: annoyed 🙃) me to listen to his catalog. Well, I listened to practically all of it (I don’t particularly care too much for live albums), including his little fling with Tin Machine, and now I greatly enjoy a lot of his stuff (his “Berlin Phase” with Brian Eno is gold). Like others, I was shocked when he died shortly after releasing the album this is from, and with context, this track takes on a deeper and sadder meaning.

You broke the rules by not posting about the previous song!!

v9733xa I really didn't wanna be the one to comment about the silly metal song with the silly intro but for the sake of the thread: I admired the way that they changed through a few genres throughout the song. Though it isn't it isn't for me (with the exception of the shreddin' at 2:51), I can see some of the mad-genius behind it. Did not care for the intro though. tao I don't have much to say about Bowie - never cared for him and fail to "get it" the way all of his fans seem to. I really like the instrumentals on this track though and the lyrical content is impressive. I would jam to this track as an instrumental. My contribution will be Foxing's Nearer MY God - I'll let you make of it what you will.

Definitely made my “honorable mentions” list for this year.

Hm. Well, that's different! Like, a downtempo soul electronica. Oh it's not my style at all. The vocals are dreadful to me, like David Bowie if he took a bunch of Vistaril. It sounds like a voice i would mimic to make fun of. But, i can see the appeal i think. It's a lot better than almost anything on the radio, that's for damn sure. I might like it more with some real instruments and jazzy beats.
This song is also stupid, but i had to post some dubstep here:
It'll probably be the only one. I fucking love dubstep and i know everyone else hates it but i don't care. But i promise it's the only brostep garbage i'll put here.

Well, I certainly didn’t hate it. I have heard of Skrillex...not sure if I ever actually heard their music before though. Anyway, I found plenty to enjoy in that track, and feel that there was some Dance Gavin Dance elements within that, and anyone who has read my posts carefully may know that I’m a huge fan of Dance Gavin Dance, most likely because they incorporate some fun elements, many of which are found in that track you posted. I wouldn’t listen to this at home by choice, but under certain circumstances, this would really get me going.
Alright, I’ll post something I personally love. Gruesome is the band (my avatar photo!) and the song is “Demonized.” I never get tired of the beautiful guitar solo in the middle. This release is their first, and ever since it was released, it has been my favorite album released since its time, back in 2015. Also, my favorite “new” band. For those who don’t know, they are pretty much a tribute band, writing original songs in the style of early Death. Some write them off as a cheap copy, but I’d like to think that Death’s Chuck Schuldiner would be happy to see some guys loved his work so much that they would copy it as close as possible and release new material. I mean, it is really hard to tell an audible difference between early Death and this band. Really freaking cool!

Alrighty, time to bring this back to life. Gruesome was interesting. I’ve never really gotten into death metal, but the band Death keeps popping up in numerous “best of...” lists I see every now and again, and so I’ve been meaning to deep dive their discography; full disclosure, “Scream Bloody Gore” really didn’t do anything for me. However, I can see the similarities between this band and Death as you pointed out, and I do agree, that guitar solo was delicious. Just a minor quibble, but I wasn’t really impressed with the vocals, and I just chalk it up to me being very picky at times with uncleans. All in all, not bad, not bad at all...
For my next choice, this is, as of right now, is still a one-off project, but I really wish they’d come out with some new material. Everyone I recommend it to I tell them it sounds like Depeche Mode had a younger, darker, and at times more aggressive brother. Good stuff.

That Crosses album is one of my all time favourite projects that Chino has been associated with. I legit played the hell out of those songs for months and months. I cannot wait till they’re done recording the follow up. I’ve been a die hard Deftones fan since I was 15 years old, when Adrenaline was released. The last two albums have been meh, but I’m really hoping they come back strong in 2019. This is a project one of my best friends has been a part of, amazing technical melodic metalcore with mostly clean vocals and a lot of electronica influence.

Blacksalt hell to the fucking yeah. I love coming back to the Crosses album, even have it on vinyl, which is another experience. [Edit:] I kinda liked Gore and Koi No Yokan, but I think Around the Fur and White Pony are fantastic.

If David Draiman did melodic metalcore... lol In all seriousness, this was fucking dope; it was a nice little change up to get something with this amount of energy that didn’t rely on uncleans in the vox. I’m gonna have to get my hands on this soon! Since we’re on the topic of melodic metalcore, here’s a band/album I stumbled on earlier this year, and really surprised me with how good it was. Def made my “best of...” list for this year:

tao I very much liked this one. At first I thought it wasn't really for me but it kept growing as the song progressed. The song rose up into the chorus really well and the mixed vocals came across way better than most bands in this style tend to. My initial reaction is a strong 6 to weaker 7, but it's something I'll probably come back to. I'm going to break the mold just a bit and give the next commenter a choice - you only have to listen to & comment on one of these to keep the thread going. One is heavy and one is not. I'm very fond of both of these songs for their lyrical content in particular. Mosh song: Not mosh song:

Mosh song: Not mosh song: I enjoyed the way that Sufferer sound like a cross between The Blood Brothers and Silent Planet. It's elements of mathcore and metalcore with hints of poetic La Dispute hardcore. The melodic nature of that riff that runs throughout the song is catchy as shit. Ive never gotten into these guys, but I'm definitely going to look into them after listening to this. I really enjoy the lyrics too, as they're very much in tune with the anxiety and depression laced feeling of the music. Great song Corvus .
