You know i'm up for this. I'd like to stress, like tao , that i want to do this as legally as possible. I don't steal movies, unless you count YouTube or something where it's possible it was uploaded without consent. But those are mostly old or foreign films that people don't care about. For what it's worth, when people start a book club, they don't all steal the books. They buy them. This shouldn't be any different. I don't have any streaming accounts though (Netflix, Hulu, etc.), so my fear is that this will be harder to coordinate than we may first think when we live not just in different places but different countries. Wait. You buy all those films that you watch? Considering you don't download films nor you have any streaming sites. I have an AMC A-List subscript so i see 2 or 3 movies a week in the theatre for 20 dollars a month. I also have cable and 400 channels, and i take like an hour each week to scroll through the meaningful stations to record movies. My DVR is currently 89% full.
But, yeah, i buy a few things, but it's rare.

If someone can pick the first film, then we'll see how many of us have access to it? Need a rota maybe? This seems like a good approach. I think we’ll just have to accept that sometimes not everyone will be able to get access to the film we pick, but we should try and maximise the number of people who can. Maybe those with more limited access to films could be the ones to put the first suggestions out there? Doesn't matter to me, i'll watch almost anything that won't make me want to double my Lexapro dose. We should work on a theme at least, so we can do action one month, then drama, then comedy, then sci-fi, then DOCUMENTARY (ahem)... etc.

If you wanna suggest something, throw it out there; I’ll try and track it down as best I can using whatever means at my disposal, so unless the film is still in theaters/in that 3-4 month span between theaters and home release, we should be relatively cool.

I suggest Prospect (2018):
"A teenage girl and her father travel to a remote alien moon, aiming to strike it rich. They've secured a contract to harvest a large deposit of the elusive gems hidden in the depths of the moon's toxic forest. But there are others roving the wilderness and the job quickly devolves into a fight to survive. Forced to contend not only with the forest's other ruthless inhabitants, but with her own father's greed-addled judgment, the girl finds she must carve her own path to escape."
Directors: Christopher Caldwell, Zeek Earl Writers: Christopher Caldwell, Zeek Earl Stars: Sophie Thatcher, Jay Duplass, Pedro Pascal

Looks like a good film. I've never heard of this but it sounds great. Appears like it might be available in March.

Not sure how helpful it is, but I just downloaded an app called Tubi which has a lot of movies on it. It might be a helpful workaround for finding access to watching a movie. Downloaded it to my iPad. Not that I’m participating, just thought I’d share.

Ok so it's official: Prospect is the first Marsh Film Club entry.
It's due out on Blu-ray on 5 March. If we set a deadline of 18 March, would that give everyone long enough to track it down and watch it?
Do people just want to post their thoughts after the deadline has passed or do we want something more structured? Maybe whoever nominates the film could lead the conversation - setting out a few opening questions/discussion points for us all to respond to.

Yes, there should be a "leader" if you will for each film. But for what it's worth, it does make sense to make an official day (or week) when people should post reviews or thoughts, so there isn't someone posting immediately a couple weeks before others have had a chance to watch.

Is it worth starting a new post for each film that gets nominated, and call it 'Marsh Film Club: Prospect' for example? Then people who have seen it way before the deadline can chat about it without spoiling this thread for those who haven't?

Synopsis: A teenage boy begins to suspect that his wholesome, all-American dad is actually the serial killer terrorizing their small town.
Throwing this out there as a possible future selection. I won't be offended if people want to go with something else.
