Alrighty, I’ve updated my review on LB for “Lady Vengeance” if anybody wants to read it, and my questions are as follows: 1) Do you think Mr. Baek was low-key keeping tabs on Geum-Ja post-release, as evidenced by the scene with him and the pastor? 2) What do you think of the scene at the end with the grown Won-Mo (first victim) placing a gag in her mouth? Do you think that that symbolizes she doesn’t need to ask for forgiveness from him, or do you think that by gagging her, it signifies forgiveness denied? 3) With the way it ended, do you think she attains redemption? 1) Probably? It's hard to know how much he could find out, as she evolved from that imprisonment as some sort of stealth agent, but yeah i guess so. 2) I definitely took that scene for the negative. But honestly, i couldn't tell you why. It seemed dark and disturbing, not redemptive in any way, so i'm assuming there's no forgiveness there. 3) Well, you read my thoughts sort of, but that's a big negatory on that one. Torturing and murdering someone, even after revealing the truth of their crimes and depravity, is never warranted. It's sickening to me that people think they can get closure -- and that ALL of those parents wanted to -- by becoming nearly as sadistic as the man they're condemning. Just a despicable ending, and central concept to the film. I actually hate it more, writing about it again.

Thinking on this more, there was a lingering dread that stayed with me for a bit after the credits, and I think that comes from the film's implicit point that revenge doesn't always bring the satisfaction that it is romanticized to offer. Not a horrible note to end on at the end of a third-in-a-row revenge film.
At least, I hope that's why this one left me with such confusing emotions.

"Thinking on this more, there was a lingering dread that stayed with me for a bit after the credits" Korean cinema in a nutshell in my opinion. Maybe that's why I enjoy these types of revenge-esque films so much from this country. Like Lady Vengeance, they have such a heavy impact on your output of the film, from days to weeks, to even months at a time. Great selection. Great film.
