The more I hear from people about how masks are muzzles, the more obvious it becomes that those people shouldn't be allowed to speak in the first place. Also, I'm sure most of you have seen this video by now, but it's hilarious and goes right along with what I said. I saw that video on reddit. These guys are hilarious.

A good friend of mine tends bar for a living. Some dumbass is trying to bring charges against her because she refused to serve him until he put a mask on. Like really asshole? That's the hill you want to die on?

I saw that video on reddit. These guys are hilarious. Yeah, I saw it there too. The comments were just as good as the video haha I quite enjoyed this video, which was being sent around all over Wechat in my circle of friends and Chinese family. I could not help but feel it was a bit staged, possibly completely fake, but done with the intention of showing in a comical way the true feelings and reactions of many Americans towards wearing masks. Maybe it’s also completely unstaged...I have no idea. But either way, it definitely voices sentiments that align with what I see in news articles and other media that post about masks and no-masks in my homeland. I feel like their whole hippie stoner vibe was a poor choice if this was unstaged, because clearly the people shown in the video are mostly the type that would be very critical of them. Anyway, pondering aside, funny video indeed. Lol

A couple of random coronavirus rants/reflections:
I went to the cinema for the first time since lockdown at the weekend. I was really struck by how few people in my screening were wearing masks, despite it being clearly advertised as a requirement. I wore one myself but was in small minority. I did find it pretty uncomfortable, particularly after a couple of hours, but one benefit was it blocked out that gross cinema smell. You really notice it when you take the mask off.
I think the thing that really surprised me was that this was the first film most of the people in my screening will have been to since lockdown and they'd all made up their minds before even showing up that they were going to ignore the rules and not wear a mask. The cinema chain have said that they won't enforce the rules because some people are exempt and so it would be difficult to do so. I guess this whole thing is an interesting social experiment into human behaviour.
I don't think I'll be going back to the cinema again for a while until there's something I really want to see that I can't watch at home. I guess there's a chance that people in my local indie cinema are more sensible/considerate so I could give that a go.
Second rant: the UK government is running a campaign at the moment to tell office workers to "go back to their desks". The only logic they can give for this is that our high street economy needs the income that comes from the footfall of office workers. And this is at the expense of the safety of office workers. I think the one positive thing about this is that pretty much every business is ignoring it, my own included.
Most people have found they can work from home productively (in some cases more so than when they're in the office). They have a better work/life balance, less time spent commuting, more time for family and friends, save money on lunches, etc. There's less road traffic so key workers have an easier commute, and it's better for the environment. This should have been one of the benefits that automation/the digital age brought for workers many years ago but has taken a pandemic to realise. I really hope we never go back to the way things were after this.

I am all about safety, but man those people driving in cars by themselves with masks on still make me chuckle a little bit.

The UK is experiencing a second wave at the moment and the government has reacted by introducing some new lockdown restrictions. It's not a return to the full lockdown at the start of the pandemic but there's some pretty big shifts and the suggestion is that they'll be in place for the next six months, taking us through the winter. Hilariously they're now saying we should all work from home if we can, just a few weeks after trying to shame us back into the offices and threatening us with redundancy if we didn't go. As if this second wave wasn't utterly predictable. At least we now have a functioning track and trace app.
Interested to hear updates on how it's going in other countries.

Some provinces in The Netherlands tightened their restrictions. In the two provinces of North Holland/South Holland bars are open until midnight and by then the music is going off and the lights are on and people have until 1 am to leave. Also the capacity has been reduced from 100 guests to 50.
Our government made the decisions that every city where the virus isn't spreading hard (my province is still on the low with new infections compared to others) and their mayors that they can add additional measures and close down bars or enforce a regional lockdown if needed but if they see that the numbers are rising fast that the government can and will step in and enforce those measures themselves.
There is so much going on right now in The Netherlands with a group of ''Dutch celebs'' that posted a video on monday with the ''I don't participate anymore'' and basically say ''Fuck you Dutch government, we are done''. It also didn't help to give one of them screen time on tv and sure they picked one of the most dumbest female artist we got. Didn't take long for them to find out that she got money at the start of this pandemic to make people aware of the virus and now she says she's done with it. Also the interview was hilarious and she got owned big time and the day after everybody deleted the video.
Either way it feels like I'm in some kind of limbo. I don't even watch the news anymore and stopped reading articles about how many people are infected weekly.
I just need Will Smith to come neuralyze me like MIB and forget about the last 7 months.
The only plus side is that football has started and that they allow people in the stadium so I was glad I got to go to my team last week and saw them win again.

Really curious and concerned to see what the next few weeks look like. With cases on the rise especially in The Americas and Europe and some countries are seeing extremely steep climbs. Wondering if we're looking at another lockdown situation. It's just so frustrating, I feel like people are just growing complacent of this thing and not being as careful as they should be.
