Proud to say I still know every word and can still hit every note on "Paranoid Android."
It's pretty obvious this band never made a better song than this, but I've enjoyed this so far. The Bends was pretty good, way way better than the disappointing Pablo Honey.
Now for the fun part where I'm listening to albums I probably spun 100 times when I was 18, then 3 times in the next 19 years. They're not bad! Getting to that weird electronic stage soon, and I was sooo into that back in the day.

Oh boy, Christmas comes early! I had no idea Dance Gavin Dance were for sure releasing an album this year! And I saw the album links posted this morning. Can’t wait to get into it tonight!

Man, so I just listened to almost 16 hours of Radiohead songs (and b-sides and remixes and live tracks) and man, lots to unpack.
There's still no questioning that OK Computer is light years ahead of any other record. It's still fantastic.
It was fun to listen to two albums that I played so much back in the day, Kid A and Amnesiac. They're fun and have a few cool songs, notably the perfect "Idioteque," but have a bunch of clunkers that I would skip on another listen.
Impressed by how solidly Hail to the Thief holds up. Some really rocking tracks, bouncy rhythms, and like four excellent songs right out of the gate. I did not remember loving this record 17 years ago (!) but it was a nice listen today.
The rest of their more recent fare really didn't impress me at all, probably confirming that I was right in not purchasing these records many years ago and kind of giving up on the band. The King of Limbs may have been the best from the last 15 years but it's leagues behind anything from decades ago. I probably won't listen to this band again but I enjoyed doing this.
I recently got all the Rush albums -- yep, all of them, I think -- so as soon as I get through some other priorities that'll be my next discography run-through. Gonna take a long time.

I'm listening to more Deathcore I grew up with again and I miss that muddy and rough sound so fucking much. I can't stand that clinical sound of all these newer records and I really despise them. Bring back bedroom recorded Deathcore!

Here’s a random music thought/question I hope some of you could chime in on. Back in high school, a buddy had burned two CONVERGE albums for me. Jane Doe, and You Fail Me. It was clear there were popular records by him and some others I knew. I think socially I wanted to be the same, but I found it difficult. A few years later I was still convinced that maybe I understood Converge but not really. I bought the next album, No Heroes. I liked maybe a song or two on that one. Fast forward a number or years. I got the much more recent full length, The Dusk In Us. I listened to it once, acknowledging that it was a more pleasant sounding record in some ways.
All in all, I really just don’t get this band. I only love one song (Jane Doe), and I only really love the ending of it. I’ve always hated the vocalist, whose vocal performance is comparatively bad (in my opinion) with Chris Barnes’s vocals on the first two or three Cannibal Corpse records (in other words, ugly, with poor delivery). Musically I just feel they played noisy, speedy punk with that chaotic hardcore flavor thrown in, which I never liked very much.
But, this band has a massive following. I’m sure many of you adore this band. Brad from Banger TV is a death metal fan like me, but he worships Converge. What am I missing? What is appealing about this band? What do you like about their music? The only thing I love is their album artwork. It looks sick.

Man, every year Dance Gavin Dance releases a new album is the year that they top my albums of the year list, which is significant considering how all in I am for metal. But I don’t know this time. This new album is good, but for me so far, after about 4 or 5 listens, it kinda feels like the lightest, most chill record they’ve done. And I find that a bit disappointing. I’m hoping for some really cool drum work, but most songs seem to have stripped that down. The two guest vocal spots could have been much cooler if they had collaborated with ex-DGD vocalists. The overall feeling for the record is less varied (the previous record had everything, even a couple pop punk/hardcore style numbers!). I’m not saying I don’t like this new album, but in a year which is stuffed with excellent releases, this is the first year that DGD will struggle to obtain my top spot. This record will have to grow on me a lot. But it doesn’t even have a banger for an ending, which is so unlike the band...

I have never understood how anybody likes that band. Whoa! What do you dislike about DGD? I’ve always thought they were amazing. Most recently their sound has gotten poppier, especially with that newer vocalist over the last few records. But I love it, especially when John Mess gets in there with his madman musings that don’t make any sense screaming over everything. Lol

I dunno, because this song is absolutely dreadful?
And so is that one.
And that one's even worse.
Just high-pitched horseshit vocals, twinkly guitars that went out of style in 1998, lyrics good enough for a 12-year-old. Dreadful garbage.

Just high-pitched horseshit vocals, twinkly guitars that went out of style in 1998, lyrics good enough for a 12-year-old. Dreadful garbage. Hahaha, I give you credit for trying. I'll have to say though, two of those songs are from the new album, and it is the most Tilian (main singer)-centered album so far, also the lightest one. Those two tracks are among the weakest in the band's career over the last few years in my opinion. I was going to recommend you to listen to the song "Petting Zoo Justice" because it's a heavier tune with the same vocalists, but much more focus on the heavy and chaotic sound, all the while building up a clever triple meter section out of a duple meter section. For me, DGD are amazing because they focus on creating great contrasts. Tilian is the 3rd clean vocalist for the band, but in the history of the band, the clean vocalist always has been used as a way to bring in a different sound world. The first vocalist was more R&B ish. I also just love how they can do a song which starts in a totally stupid format (like in the song "Flossie Dickey Bounce"), then not so seamlessly transition to something more sensible, then chaotic, then somewhat beautiful in a single song. And the guitar sounds, tones, and riffs are sometimes very innovative. The band's contrast through vocals kinda reminds me of the awesomeness of the good years of Alexisonfire, with their 3 vocalists. I loved that shit.

I love death metal. And sometimes also brutal death metal. Brutal cover arts are par for the course oftentimes. Cannibal Corpse may be largely responsible for that trend, although I’m not certain who was the first to do that kind of cover art. As it is so common, it absolutely does not bother me. It is gimmicky and considered an artistic vision that suits the music, much like stylings of a horror movie.
But today I have just seen two album covers that actually crossed the line for me. For anyone interested in seeing why, these are the albums: Shitfucker- Sex with Dead Body Syphilic- Empty Nest
The first one features a dead body with exposed bloody anus kneeling before two adult men who most likely raped his dead corpse. The second one shows a woman drowning young children or maybe babies in a full tub, with dead corpses draped over the edge of the tub and also on the floor.
In a way, these are no different from other stuff I consider passable, but for some reason, these really made me extremely uncomfortable and upset. Maybe the second one offends me especially because it depicts determination of drowning infants/young children, and now that I’m a father it makes me feel scared. The first one offends me perhaps because it seems like a real, sick threat that people may actually be experiencing anywhere in the world. It looks less like a gore-film inspired fiction fantasy, and more like a serious and real criminal act that really shouldn’t be used as album art. Although the genre tags appeal to me on these, I won’t be listening to these. I just can’t. Why am I expressing this? I think there may actually be a limit to how far shit like this should go. Cannibal Corpse Art is childsplay in comparison in my opinion. Anyone willing to see those covers, I’d be curious if it struck a similar nerve to you. But yeah, I kinda surprised myself being grossed out by these with my strong stomach.

Precisely lol I was thinking you guys were talking about War of Ages this whole time. I totally misread. War of Ages always seemed like a significant, yet insignificant band to me. Wage War, however, I don't know. haha
