Made some big hardware changes this year already. Bought Sennheiser HD58X headphones, Schiit Magi 3+ & Modi 3+ amp/DAC stack, and presonus eris 3.5 monitors!
My new setup has me falling in love with music once again. Past couple years after I graduated college and started working, podcasts have been my main listening source and music took a back seat. Not sure what happened but, in college, music was all I listened to. I was always scouring the internet looking at blogs, bandcamp, soulseek, just looking for the next new thing I never heard before. I think I just got burnt out trying to keep up with everything and had no more capacity for listening and didn't enjoy it as much. With the virus taking over I worked a lot less and had a lot more down time and was able to invest myself getting back into music and gear and all the old stuff i used to love. I'm really starting to enjoy just listening to music once again and it just feels amazing!

I got some Sony WH-1000XM3s for Christmas and have been listening a lot more regularly. I know what you mean about getting burned out trying to find the next best thing. With such easy access to so much music it can be overwhelming. I kind of miss the days where you’d just have a rack of CDs to choose from.

Does anyone else ever get an album and immediately realize after a full rotation that you don’t care for the album, or that it’s just very, you know, meh? I just finished my fourth playthrough of an album that on first spin did absolutely nothing for me. And when I look at my current top 10 albums list, half of them wouldn’t be there if I judged them only by the first listen. I really get irritated when I read an album review online for an album by someone who makes it very clear they only listened to it once. I do my best to give an album at least three spins before I decide to keep or discard it. Not telling y you guys how to listen to music, but I encourage you all to consider how this process of multiple listens can change your perspective of an album. For me, once I began truly listening to new music by this rule, I’ve found much more enjoyment through the music I listen to, despite having less time to check out as many albums this way. This is something that I have issue with as well, all of my top 10/20 albums and Ep’s of last year required several listens to decide on adding them, however, some of them contained singles that I didn’t immediately care for or like at all (PVRIS, BMTH, Creeper for instance). It often takes repeated listens to the album as a whole (in order) for me to truly appreciate it, with metal albums specifically death metal, I require at least one full listen to decide if I’m interested in it at all, then repeated listens to decide if I actually like it, with pop or alt rock albums often I listen to it once, and if the hooks grab me I immediately listen to it again. I def stay away from most reviews of albums stringypoo, mostly because half the reviewers are getting paid to review the album and aren’t interested in an unbiased take.

Anyone fuck with Brand of Sacrifice? Got into them a couple years ago, and suddenly fell in love when their last album came out. However, they are dropping a new album in 2 days and it's FUCKING DOPE.

I remember downloading them when their first EP dropped. People said they were heavy so I checked them out. Didn't know how I felt, so I kept listening until God Hand dropped. So glad I stuck with them, they're so good and Kyle is a fucking beast.

Finally listened to the new A Day to Remember. Man, this blows. Why do my favorite bands from when I was 25 all suck now?

Call me weird, I don’t care, but even though I’ve purposefully withheld myself from checking the new singles I’m really pumped for the new Billie Eilish album dropping July 30th. If it turns out to be as good as I’m sincerely hoping it’ll be, I’ll probably double dip for it too (double dip = cd and vinyl)

Lossless quality coming to Apple Music. Spotify need to step up quickly or I’ll be making the switch.

Duuude, new Mental Cruelty is real tasty. Maybe I gotta give it another listen with headphones, but it reminded me of Immortal by Lorna Shore for some reason which is not a bad thing at all. I personally like it a lot, highly dig their new sound.
