I now understand why everyone is so hyped about it. From start to finish you are on an adventure with Arthur and it gets crazier and crazier by the minute.

Excellent film about DACA recipients and undocumented teens in Georgia and the state that will stop at nothing but to make their lives miserable. Compelling and powerful stuff. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/the-unafraid/Headed off to see Joker in a minute...

Went to see this last night too and felt let down. I thought it was too derivative of Taxi Driver/The King of Comedy without bringing anything substantially new to the table. The message was confused - every time I thought it was going somewhere interesting it seemed to hit a dead end (mental health, society, anarchy). I thought Joaquin Phoenix's performance was very good up until the final act when it became a little uneven. I liked the production design and score throughout. Overall I'd give it a 3.5/5. Not sure why it's got so many 5/5 reviews from critics. The audience in my screening clapped when the film was over and I'm still cringing at that.

This was great! Finally watched my first Buster Keaton film. I don't think he's going to rise to the level of Chaplin in terms of my favorites -- albeit, different movies -- but i can't wait to see more. How delightful. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/sherlock-jr/

First week of my spooky movie marathon down, here's what I've watched so far.
Insidious: Was expecting a bit more from this given what I've heard about it, but it seemed like a pretty standard haunted house movie. Definitely a bit spooky, but not much more. 2/5 The Blackcoat's Daughter: Sort of conflicted on this one because I thought it was definitely pretty creepy and engaging, but it also felt sort of meandering and pointless? 3/5 Brightburn: I liked this in concept more than execution, even though I'm pretty sure there have already been Superman comics with the same storyline. Surprisingly gory, but lazily written and none of the characters were developed enough for me to care about them. 2.5/5 Carrie ('76): I've actually never read the King novel, for some reason, so I'm not sure how this stacks up as an adaptation. While the climax is great, the rest seems pretty dated to me. 2/5 The Blob ('88): Really fun '80s camp, especially when compared to the original from the '50s. I spent at least half of the movie under the impression that Kevin Dillon was Ethan Hawke, though. Definitely the highlight of this month's collection so far. 3.5/5

Just watched the movie about Joker everyone is talking about. The first half of it at boot camp had some fucking hilarious moments, Drill Sargent was funny as hell, but damnnn that arc had a dark ending. And when they finally got to Vietnam there was some true war is hell shit going on. 4.5/5 I think we might have a classic on our hands.
