Hello friends, I know I started a few things in the task bar but I figured I'd bring it over here because it'd be easier to keep track of. I have started my Anime journey, Cowboy Bebop wasn't for me, I just wasn't feeling it after three episodes so I decided to nope out. Gave Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood a shot and am really enjoying it after finishing the first season.
Wasn't super into at first but once the story got a rolling I was hooked. So I'm out in these streets looking for recs I can easily come back to. Stick to Netflix and Hulu please because I'm not going to jump through hoops to DL and cast things. I will always take dubs over subs, and I think I prefer a more modern animation approach but I'm not convinced yet.
Thanks in advance for helping me with this journey.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying FMA! I can suggest a few more that you might like: - Death Note - if you want an addictive dark supernatural thriller - Sword Art Online - if you want a light fantasy adventure - Steins;gate - if you want some mind-bending time travel with fun characters I think they’re all pretty accessible to a newbie (although I’m not exactly an otaku myself). I’m sure some of the other dudes here will have some good recommendations too.

Latest update from me: I finished Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! over Christmas and really enjoyed it. As well as being a fun show, you also get a bit of an education in how anime is made. Definitely furthered my appreciation of anime as an art form.
Now I’m on to the first season of My Hero Academia. Only a few episodes in so can’t really judge it yet but I’m sensing a lot of similarities with One Punch Man.
Also planning on getting into manga this year and have just started Monster.

Not entirely sure what's on US Netflix, but over here in Canada we have a few. Maybe they're on both? 1. The Promised Neverland (kinda like a... Jailbreak? Hard to describe. 2nd season is starting to air in the next few days) 2. Erased (a who-dun-it mixed with time travel?) 3. Attack on Titan (Game of Thrones meets weird steampunk kinda world with giant humanlike monsters terrorizing) 4. One Punch Man (satirical, super strong guy, fun y ass show) 5. Castlevania (the Nintendo game, but anime. Vampire hunters, Ghouls, witches) 6. Sword Art Online (being trapped in a video game) 7. Fate Zero (very fantasy based. People get figures from history to fight for them to get the holy grail) 8. Dorohedoro (weird, alternate dimensions with a lizard guy leading) All those guys SHOULD be on there. If Canada has it, you guys gotta.

It's got the feels, but very different, IMO. OPM plays heavily on comedy and action, whereas I feel MHA is just tons of character growth, story and action. If you wanna get into manga more, definitely get MHA. They're doing a lot of crazy shit right now. Or if you want more stuff, I'm reading a shit ton and can definitely give you more recommendations

I kind of thought it'd be like reading the storyboards of the show (i.e. not as enjoyable) so avoided it until now. That's one of the reasons I picked out Monster. Would appreciate some more manga recommendations. I like dark stuff if you can suggest anything. Only dark manga I've read so far was Uzumaki. Really loved the artwork but felt like the story was a little underdevelopment/over the top for my tastes.

Would appreciate some more manga recommendations. I like dark stuff if you can suggest anything. Only dark manga I've read so far was Uzumaki. Really loved the artwork but felt like the story was a little underdevelopment/over the top for my tastes. Reading the manga and watching the anime (or other way around) can differ depending on a case per case. Certain anime are direct adaptations, some are loose, some use the idea and build their own. If they follow the adapting guide, usually an anime will adapt 2-3 chapters per episode. For example, since you showed me Tokyo Ghoul, I'll use that as an example. The anime had 12 episodes for the first season and 12 for the second. So, in theory the manga should be 48-72 chapters. In reality it has 144 chapters. So that's 6 chapters per episode. That's so much fucking content to fit into like 18 minutes that they cut entire characters and storylines. And since they're doing that, they twist things to make work that don't make sense in comparison to the manga. But, sometimes you get stuff that's literally a story board, like you mentioned. Demon Slayer was like that... Well, so far. My Hero Academia is good with sticking to the source, but sometimes stretch parts that should be short to longer, and things that are longer to be shorter. So it really depends. All in all, I feel like I get a better experience with manga. I feel like the characters get fleshed out more, and you learn more about side characters and their relations. As for dark manga, it all really depends how dark we're talking. I've read some straight up gore fest stuff, then read some mysteries with dark themes.. I don't know how you read them (online, through an app, hard copies), but I've been enjoying these; Chainsaw Man; a dude makes a deal with a chainsaw demon dog, and becomes a monster that has chainsaws come out of him and fights demons. Super gorey. Getting made into an anime for 2021 Ibitsu; about a Lolita girl that tortures you by killing all your friends and siblings Ousama Game/King's Game; everyone in a class gets a text that says they have to do a menial task, or face consequences. They start from little things like "kiss so and so" to "pick someone to die, or everyone dies" Signal 100; a teacher uses hypnosis on his calls and then kills himself. You later find out he programmed them to the point of where if they do 1 of the 100 "signals", they commit suicide. One of the signals is "drink from a water bottle". This one is super gorey. Killing Stalking; This is more of a dark, in the aspect of fucked up relationships. This one guy falls in love with another guy, so he breaks into his house to steal something that has his smell. He goes into the basement to find he's actually got a body tied up there and he's a killer. It really deals a lot with super abusive relationships and Stockholm syndrome type stuff. It's a manwha (Korean manga). Has a bit of.... Man on man? But it's actually a super interesting read. Doku Mushi; this one is wild. About 8 people wake up in an abandoned school and all there is is a timer on the wall, for 7 days. The school has running water, and a room with a meat cleaver and hot pot. It's got a lot of sex, betrayal and murder... Super good. My Dearest Self With Malice Aforethought; guy is out drinking And wakes up 3 days later with the hottest girl on the school in bed beside him. He has no recollection of what's happened. He starts piecing together what happened over the last 3 days, and then gets confronted by the cops. His father killed himself 15 years prior because he got caught for being a serial killer, and a body appears with the same MO as his dad. So he's trying to figure out "what the fuck happened" Those are the ones I've read, I've got a few more I haven't read, so I can't really recommend their quality? But maybe try those. Let me know if you got any questions!

Well consider me in boys. Finished up Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, 9/10 really really enjoyed, my biggest nitpicks were mainly Ed being kind of annoying sometimes, and some of the conclusion seemed a little bit on the deus ex machina side of things. But on the whole I really enjoyed story and saw how the genre can be used in ways that live action and CGI even can't really.
Next up Attack On Titan, Deathnote, and then maybe Hunter Hunter but that last one isn't locked in yet.

You're watching a lot of shows that are fairly short number wise. Plow through those, then when you feel ballsy, get into HxH. HxH is 148 Episodes, with some of it being really slow. You got FMA thats just straight story, AOT and DN are the same. if anything, try getting into stuff like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia. Super newbie friendly. Just my 2 cents.

I've been reading print copies until now but already frustrated at certain volumes of Monster being out of stock (I'm getting Volume 4 delivered from Australia...) so I may have to switch to digital. The last one you mentioned sounds right up my street. I'll let you know how I get on.

Attack on Titan has such a dope ass soundtrack. Yeah, they really have a solid sound. Some people get annoyed, but every once and a while, they start to do politics. It can be dry and stretch for an episode or two longer then you want, but just stick it out.
