Prey (2017) Discussion Release Date: May 5th, 2017 Platform: PC, Xbox One, Ps4 Prey is an action-adventure game with role-playing elements and strong narrative played from a first-person perspective. The player takes the role of Morgan Yu, a human aboard a space station with numerous hostile aliens. The player will be able to select certain attributes of Yu, including gender, and decisions made by the player that will affect elements of the game's story. To survive, the player controls Yu to collect and use weapons and resources aboard the station to fend off and defeat the aliens. According to creative director Raphael Colantonio, the station will be completely continuous rather than having separate levels or missions, at times requiring the player to return to areas they previously explored. The player will also be able to move around the outside of the station in zero gravity and find shortcuts connecting parts of the station. Colantonio also stated that the aliens have an array of different powers that the player-character can gain over time; one such alien has the ability to mimic everyday items such as a chair. The game will have multiple endings, according to lead designer Ricardo Bare; the endings fall into two major narrative structures depending on how the player broadly interacted with the station and surviving humans, but Bare said there are "tons of little permutations" based on specific events Personally I think this game is gonna be fucking sick. Arkane has done a wonderful job with their past games, Dishonored preferably. From what I've seen at PAX East, the game is entirely in the players hands. You can do a lot from what they've shown, from coming up with different route paths, or completing missions freely, and also exploring without doing a single mission. Only a few weeks away, so I'm hoping for the best. Consoles get a free demo, as PC does not.

Worth pre-ordering for $35, you think? I'm only getting one new game a month at most this year and I'm trying to decide between this and The Surge for May.

I mean, Arkane hasn't done me bad. Sure, Dishonored 2 was a bit choppy but they even admitted their own fault with the new engine. Honestly, I think this game is gonna be bad ass and the devs seem really into it. $35 is a fuckin steal.

Yeah, I ended up getting this after watching more gameplay from The Surge. Not sure I want any Dark Souls-style games from a dev that isn't FromSoft after how bad games like Nioh and Lords of the Fallen are.

Trying to get all of The Witcher 3 done before my Prey preorder arrives. Pretty stoked on this game, I actually liked the original Prey so it would've been cool to see a continuation of that but like Lig said, Arkane is pretty consistent. This should be at least a 7/10.

Anyone play the demo? I liked what I played, but fuck playing first-person games with a controller. Hopefully the absence of a PC demo doesn't mean the port is going to suck.

I'm hopeful that because they had some issues with Dishonored 2 on PC and they publicly said that Prey wouldn't have the same issues on PC that they put some extra time and money into the PC port. Fingers crossed! (Source)

They're also using CryEngine instead of Void, so hopefully that helps. Plus Arkane is pretty good about post-launch support. Doesn't excuse games running poorly at launch, but at least they're not like NetherRealm who release broken garbage and then just say, "lol get fucked nerds."

Glad to see positive reviews about the demo. I really hope the PC "port" isn't fucked, I know they've showing it off for demos like at PAX East. Guess we'll have to find out in 4 days!

Played the opening hour of the game last night and it has one of the coolest openings I can remember. It is a shame a lot of the promotional material for the game kind of ruins the initial mindfuck that occurs but I really enjoyed it. The game totally feels like Bioshock in some of the best ways possible. I only have a few gripes with the game. The first was that aiming and shooting felt really sluggish. I was playing on my PS4 though and I'm hoping that could be resolved with some sensitivity changes. The mimics kept fucking me up because they would move faster than I could aim at them. My only other issue outside of that is some of the audio queues seemed to trigger at off times and they would be really loud and wouldn't go away. For example, a mimic would pop up and be spotted and it would play this loud audio queue that made things really tense. The mimic would hide and disguise itself but the music would keep playing. It could be 10 minutes until I actually encountered the mimic again but the music would continue playing despite itself. Other than that I'm really looking forward to this and seeing how the video gaming community reacts.

That's actually a bug with the Ps4 version! https://www.reddit.com/r/prey/comments/67v6ld/do_you_have_high_input_lag_on_ps4_too/dgtku51/

It made me feel like I was really shitty at the game, ha ha. Got my PC key today so I'll have to make sure the pre-install is running so I can spend some time with it this weekend.

I won't know anything except "fighting aliens" when I pop this bad boy in.

Runs like butter for me; 100 FPS average on max settings at 1440p. Having to edit the config files to change the FOV on a game they say they tested twice as much as Dishonored 2 is hilarious, though.
