Well that’s going to be a fun episode of Drive to Survive. Hopefully Max is recovered for the next race. Looked like a painful impact. Amazing work from Lewis to get the W, regardless of the collision.
What did people think of the new sprint qualifying format? Personally thought it was entertaining but not sure it’s needed.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, I was very negative about the idea when I first heard about it but I'm all for Sprint Qualifying now. I don't want the sprint qualifying to usurp the current qualifying format but a few times a year is a nice change of pace. Three a year sounds nice, they could use them to break up a double/triple header or with the increased flexibility of their start time they could tweak the time to better suit an international start time. But yeah, if Lewis wins the title this year he better win it by at least 24 points or you're going to have a lot of very upset Max fans. It's a weird one, both teams responses were very results oriented. I can understand why Mercedes thought it was a racing incident and I can understand why Red Bull wanted Lewis punished harsher. This could be a major talking point on the historical impact of this season.

To me it looked like a racing incident but I’m not a racing driver. The fact there doesn’t seem to be much consensus over it among the experts would suggest to me that the penalty Lewis got was probably fair. I think Verstappen’s reaction has been pretty embarrassing, as has some of the comments that have come out of Red Bull. And that’s before we get on to the hot takes from fans on social media… Whatever happens, we’re set up nicely for the rest of the season.

Let's fucking go Georgie boy! Points finish for Williams!
Also earlier in the race "If you need to compromise my race to keep Nicky in the points, do it."
He might just be my favorite driver on the grid, can't wait to see him in a competitive car.

Such a crazy race. Looked like Bottas had handed the race on a plate to Lewis only for him to end up at the back after the restart. Enjoyed seeing some non-DRS assisted overtaking too. There was even some drama afterwards with Vettel being DQed. Another classic episode of Drive to Survive in the making.
Sad to hear Lewis get booed every time he was interviewed. I hope Red Bull and Max take a stronger stand against it. Their over the top response to the crash at the British GP has emboldened these morons and Lewis really doesn’t deserve it.

Well from my perspective VB just confirmed to the world that he knows he's not going to be a Mercedes driver next year. That fastest lap stunt was purely a vindictive maneuver, performed by an individual who wanted to give a little "fuck you" to his current team.
I strongly believed Russell would in their lineup going into this race, that action confirmed it for me.

I can recommend the Schumacher documentary on Netflix. Really fitting tribute to the guy, and super sad knowing that he didn’t get to enjoy his retirement with his family. Got to see him race irl a few times, such an awesome driver.

Does anyone actually know what his quality of life is like now? Is he braindead? Can he communicate at all?

From the little that’s been said I think he’s conscious but severely brain damaged and unable to walk or communicate. So much respect for the family for how they’ve dealt with the situation.

I was feeling starved of motorsport at the weekend so watched the Indy Car. First time I’ve properly paid attention to it. My reflections: - Laguna Seca is a really fun track and they should race at more dedicated circuits, especially if they’ve been in Gran Turismo - Rolling starts are boring but fair enough if it’s too dangerous for Indy Car - The windshields look so much worse than the halo - As an international viewer, having a pastor say a prayer for the drivers before the race and then getting Carlton from the Fresh Prince to sing the American national anthem is hilarious - It was fun to see Grosjean racing at the front
Overall good entertainment, and I’ll be tuning in for the final race on Sunday.

Oh yeah I've watched quite a bit of Indycar and have similar opinions. I pretty much agree with everything you've said, although I must admit I'm already used to the aero to add to that. - Ovals are awful, I hate them, but I find the rest of the tracks to be just as good as F1. - F1 coverage is much better, the graphics and broadcast are fine for Indy, it just feels less polished. - The spec series is super compelling, the driver leading the championship has 3 race wins and just 1 pole, imagine seeing that in F1. Anyone can be competitive on any weekend (like Grosjean), Marcus Ericcson has 2 race wins and is going to finish top 5 for the championship, he's having a fantastic season. I think both products do a lot of things right. I'll keep paying attention to Indycar but it hasn't done enough to usurp F1 for me. Also you're just jealous Carlton isn't singing the national anthem at your GP!
