i'm pretty stoked as well. if you want an accurate live action, then go watch the many Japanese ones that have already been made. (though i'm still holding my breath that this isn't another Dragon Ball live action ) seen it. mediocre the netflix one or the DBZ movie?

Isn't this a movie? My main concern is how they're going to fit an entire anime series full of character depth and suspense into a movie. Along with what Baker said, I also don't like how Light is seemingly killing innocent people in various ways, which completely goes against the main premise of the anime.
With that said, I'm still going to watch it.

my honest thoughts of the movie The movie is mediocre at best.
They start the movie off really fast, and within 30 minutes Kira is well established in a montage taking like 3 minutes. A little too fast for me. You didn't get the fun of Light learning how to work the book to the best of his ability.
A few other things bugged me. Like Ryuk. He didn't really serve a purpose, other then explaining how the book worked. In the anime, he really helped Light figure out a lot stuff, encouraged him to kill, helped him not get caught. Tons of little things. This movie could have been the exact same if Ryuk wasn't in it.
L was the highlight, like I thought from the get go. One thing that bugged me is how the story progressed with his character. They kill Watari and he lashes out. I don't see L ever going that far as to run someone down, try and shoot someone. First off, how did Watari get controlled by the DN in the first place. Is his name literally just Watari? I highly doubt that it'd work like that. Also, the way the figured out it was Light was kidna weak. I loved how they broadcasted in certain areas in the world to trick Light into killing (in the anime). They were just like "yeah, this is his first kill, so hes gotta be here".
Mia was REALLY annoying. She's SUPPOSED to be Misa, but I honestly hated her from the get go. In the anime she got her own deathnote and took the Shinigama eyes, and thats how they met and then she obssessed over Light and he manipulated her. In this, it was quite the opposite.
In the end, it kinda redeemed itself with Light using the book to save himself, in a very Light Yagami way, but it still fell short to me.
Rushed story, characters that serve no purpose, and just bad writing all lead to this movies downfall. As an anime to movie translation, it was utter fucking trash. Literally the names of the characters, slightly, and concept is the only thing this has in common with it. As just a movie standpoint, it was okay. I'd give it 5/10

It was watchable but not necessarily good. The ending was a bit abrupt and felt like sequel bait even though nothing in the story made me think that the plot warranted any follow up.
I never watched the original show but now I kind of want to (the premise is neat but the movie really fell short for me).

I thought this movie was god awful. I tried to stop comparing it to the anime halfway through and even that didn't help. One of my main problems with this movie was how a huge part of the anime was the battle of intelligence between Light and L, and in this movie they were both so dumb. Like I can forgive that if they didn't introduce L as the super genius detective and if they didn't reveal that everything was part of Light's plan at the end.
It made no sense how Light went from being a complete moron to having a well thought out master plan that he created while he was being chased by the police.
