Honestly I don’t like their rating. I input ten ratings, and anything 90 and below is like “not good” or worse. The rating they give based on your input doesn’t seem fair. I put a 68 down for “Charade”, thinking that I liked the movie but it wasn’t mind blowing, 68 is fair, etc., and it rated it “terrible”. Not what I was intending, and I couldn’t change the rating to more accurately reflect what I thought and felt about it. I felt the same but there's an option in your profile to set your own colours and quips for score brackets. Here's mine: 100 - Masterpiece 90 - Brilliant 80 - Very Good 70 - Good 60 - Average 50 - Not Good 40 - Bad 30 - Very Bad 20 - Terrible 10 - The Worst 0 - What The site takes into account that people score films differently based on their own criteria (i.e. I might think of an average film as being a 3/5 whereas you might rate it as a 2/5). To do this, it looks at how your scores for films are distributed across the scale and how many you have in each bracket. Seems pretty clever to me. Ah. I just went into it blind w/o signing up for it, so then the ratings would make sense, as they’re already established and not what I personally would ascribe to the films I chose to rate.

Also, had to steal this quote.

Also, had to steal this quote. Is this suggesting that people shouldn’t be able to express their fatigue at the number of superhero movies lately purely because there were a lot of Westerns in the 50s? I don’t get that. Just sounds like someone who likes superhero movies is feeling a bit insecure about their preferences.

I think it's rather calling out people who act like not liking superhero films make them unique or quirky.

The way it's written seems to imply that everyone who says they don't like superhero films thinks in that way. It's a weird generalisation to me. I'm taking issue with it as someone who is tired of superhero films and has probably mentioned it in the past. I get that there's a huge audience out there who loves these movies but for me I'd prefer Hollywood was putting its efforts into other genres.

I really just think the point of it was saying that every generation has its rash of movies that are too common or repetitive. Hollywood is going to produce stuff that makes money. Infinity War just made a quarter billion dollars in one weekend in one country. I don't think they're going to stop superhero films anytime soon. With that said, there are SO MANY GOOD MOVIES BEING MADE out there right now! Whether those are arthouse films or documentaries or other pictures straight to streaming, i'm of the opinion that there are so so so many good things to watch out there that i'm never at want for more.

Gave up on the conversation above, sorry haha. I think my main issue probably wasn’t so much with the point being made but with the aggressive/patronising tone. That shit annoys the fuck out of me.
Going to see a screening of The Cremator at the weekend. It’s a Czech New Wave film from the 60s. I’ve never seen it before but it’s been on my list for ages and I know it has a cult following. Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see it in the cinema.

does anyone ever just put on a movie just to fall asleep to? like you've seen the movie enough times to just listen to it in the darkness and you zzzzzz a movie you put on countless times because you dont need to see the end?
also works for tv shows.

Due to popular demand (actually it was like one guy, but whatever) i'm going to start posting a series of Top Tens pretty soon. The first will simply be "The Classics." Hope to finish writing it up in the next day or so. Complete with clips and/or trailers! Stay tuned, film buffs.

I would've loved to see it in 70mm at the cinema. I know my old city is showing it, but the ones in Seattle are just regular though I missed out on the showings here. Oh well, such a classic but to see it on the big screen would've been awesome!
