This is me during most of the TV awards during the Golden Globes, like... what ARE these shows?

Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody winning at the Globes is a joke, but whatever. They're not a big predictor of the Oscars usually, but those are still laughable wins.

With the new year upon us, I'm thinking of going through and watching all the films of Akira Kurosawa that I own, and then reviewing them as I work through them; I'm not going to neglect the challenge that I'm still working through, but until Criterion restarts its streaming service, several of the films on my list will be unavailable for me to watch. Worth a shot?

Oscar nominations are on Tuesday morning. I'll have my giant thread posted by that night! This year, i've seen virtually everything that will be nominated (i think) except for a few Netflix/Amazon-only films that had one-week release in LA to qualify, and a couple foreign films -- namely Cold War and Capernaum -- which seem sure to be nominated.

Was going to dig into some films today, but then I saw AMC playing “Uncle Buck” with “Breakfast Club” next, which I haven’t seen yet. I’ll start after “Breakfast Club”...

essien, on Letterboxd I see you watched “Mirai”; being as spoiler-free as possible, how was it overall and compared to his other films?

essien , on Letterboxd I see you watched “Mirai”; being as spoiler-free as possible, how was it overall and compared to his other films? I'd say it was on par with his previous films but more of a family drama than an adventure movie. Looked beautiful and had some really touching moments. I think you'll enjoy it if you liked his other works.

Going to a screening of Lee Chang-dong's Poetry tonight. I haven't seen it before and I loved Burning so I'm really happy I get to watch it in a theatre.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Getting the next two and a half weeks in order for what films i can still see before the Oscars.
Apparently i'll never see The Ballad of Buster Scruggs since i don't have Netflix, and it was in theatres for about 6 hours total. So... that stinks.
Mirai was in theatres literally for 3 days, so that's not happening. I had no interest in seeing this cartoon, but after the nomination i wanted to. Forget it now.
Border was a film that looked too strange and i skipped it, but apparently it was quite good. I'll keep looking but it may be too late.
Hale County This Morning, This Evening is airing on PBS next week, and Minding the Gap is on the week after that, so this is really exciting that i'll get to watch all the honored documentaries... except one, and i have no idea where to watch Of Fathers and Sons.
The one that bugs me the most is the German film Never Look Away, which doesn't have a wide(ish) opening date until AFTER the Oscars. Horseshit. Why would you do that? It's not going to win! And no one will care about this movie after it doesn't win an Oscar. Put it in theatres now so people can at least judge it compared to the film that will beat it.

They did bring “Mirai” back for a limited re-release after the nominations were announced, and its more than likely it’ll have a physical release in the next couple of months. I know it’ll be after the Oscars, but if you’re a completionist, I’d say hang in there.
