Haven't posted in this thread in ages. I'll be like I would say the same too... Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) Music OST - 【Piano Cover】 君の名は/Radwimps Anime Soundtracks (1 Hour) Your Name for the win baby! Hah! What a funny coincidence. I used to teach in an international school in Kunshan, China (now I do the same thing in Shanghai), and for a couple of years I was given the permission to do what I really wanted to do with the music program, so I turned it into an upper school orchestra program. I wrote all the music for my orchestras to learn with. When it was concert season, I would always ask the classes what they wanted to perform. If it was something that worked out reasonably for a string orchestra and wasn’t too hard for their level I said I’d write out an arrangement for them if it was voted on for being performed. I remembered some girls beaming with excitement about a song from an anime called “Your Name.” I was kinda confused but listening to the video you posted I remember clearly that music. I believe we ended up playing a different song from that same anime but I don’t remember what it was anymore since it was so foreign to me anyway, especially since I don’t watch anime. The melody here you bookmarked is nice. It’s slightly unconventional with how some clashing pitches work simultaneously, but the octave displacement allowed for it to work out with just enough distance to smoothen out the dissonances to a listenable level. It’s either the show of less talented composer’s work or a purposeful and smart composition effort. Either way, it’s fine as is and is quite popular here.

Talk about good times and the vibe!!! I only watched Your Name once, and I listened to it's OST spamily. Which I don't know, quite a bit funny to me. When my ears first glimpse the songs out of that film, I was intensely in love. Perhaps this might jug your memory from the vid I'm going to post of your old teaching class. Another melody or smash-up of anime theme's. I Played The Greatest Anime Piano Songs in Public

Listening to a classic of my college years today. Surprised myself, as I actually know that song! I didn't remember it until that clean singing part where he's like "You're infected with me." I never quite understood why I couldn't connect with Demon Hunter. On paper they were everything I liked back in those days, but for some reason I couldn't connect to them. I still don't like his cleans, and maybe that was the main drawback for me, but other than that, they've got it going on! Those were fun years being a music fan.

They're called your formative years for a reason, and though I have literally a few thousand more albums now there are some bands from 2002-2005 that I will never ever stop listening to over and over, a rarity for someone who can go years between hearing the same album twice.

That definitely used to be me and Thursday. War all the Time was such a great record for me to start my journey into post-hardcore/metalcore/emo stuff back in those days. I later got every Thursday album and was listening to them regularly for more than a decade. They were definitely "that band" for me. Now, and maybe because I've become busy trying to review albums for metalcrypt, I just haven't visited their material in at least 3 or more years. I find myself constantly looking for new records that are appropriate for the metalcrypt site that I can get at least 5 full listens before I write a review. So my listening habits have changed a bit in recent years. I used to also find I rarely listened to the same album twice. Back then I had way too much music downloaded to my file folder. haha! Now that I've been streaming, things have been so different. Not better or worse, but I do like the loss of a need to organize files and stuff.

Kim Dracula's debut album (2023). I normally hate stuff like this, but this is just different. Sam Astaroth of Banger TV reviews shared this as his album of the year, and I normally hate his tastes, especially because he's big into industrial metal. But this album just works really well for me. It's a combination of his tendency to be ALL OVER THE PLACE vocally and musically in any given song. He's known for imitating famous vocalists, which he does super well, and I caught many direct quotes that he voiced himself from famous songs, such as the "Oh Shit" in Down with the Sickness by Disturbed. lol He's super talented, and also demented. And I kinda just love it. Just saw this wild music video for one of his most popular songs, "Make Me Famous." It's slightly different from the album version, so it's worth hearing both, especially you miss the effects a bit in this version, such as the gunshot that happens at the end of the scene in this video.
Also, I watched this video during a break at work, realized that might have been a little not okay. lol

Svdestada- Candela (2024, Blackened Crust) This is a band I definitely intend to write a review for soon. I don't know enough about them at the moment. I believe (in a hurry at the moment) I saw they are from Spain, but anyway, this is a really cool mix of influences. I really would appreciate if anyone can share input based on this song and/or other songs on the album though. There are a lot of elements on this record, especially this song, that remind me of post-hardcore and stuff like that. The second half of this song especially. Can you think of any bands from outside of strictly metal that have similar sound qualities? I think The Bled is a possible one. Maybe v9733xa might have a few ideas.

As Patient Stars Align - Self Titled (2005)
Was doing some research of pre-Panic At The Disco and led me into this one.

They have a strong screamo, blackened and neocrust leaning. Check out Ictus, Ekkaia (early), Buried Inside and From Ashes Rise for similar influences.

Ahh yes, Buried Inside is a great band to compare with that I used to listen to. That was a solid band! Thanks for the list of bands with similar sounding properties. This may help me write up a more proper review. Really enjoying this album overall.
