Details of the amazing $1.9 trillion bill that will be signed by President Biden Friday:Vote for Democrats, you get elected representatives that actually want to help the poor and disadvantaged. Literally zero Republicans in both the Senate or House voted for this bill.

No updates in this thread since March. How's everyone getting on with the pandemic?
The UK got rid of pretty much all restrictions but I've still been living like a hermit. Our numbers are through the roof and there's some nervousness about the country becoming a variant breeding ground. I have my second jab tomorrow so looking forward to getting that full protection and feeling more confident about going back to a slightly more normal routine. My workplace is asking people to start coming back into the office from September. It's going to feel weird after being away for so long. And the football season starts up again in a couple of weeks so I'll be going to a full stadium.
Expecting more lockdowns this winter.

It’s quite hard for me to even picture having worked away from home for such long periods, essien. That part is so interesting in my mind. Last year I taught in the international school from home for two or three months, but ever since then, I’ve worked on site with a school full of children. China has been having cases regularly in various areas but never large numbers being reported. Usually when there’s a report of a province having somewhat of a lockdown, it’s anywhere from 1 to 10 cases and then after a few days it’s all anyone ever heard of and things are back to normal. However, the Delta variant has recently landed in the mainland and while it hasn’t currently been a huge presence, it has been documented in an area within a few short hours travel from Shanghai, so I do know I’m not terribly safe either in some way with how it spreads. I just had my first vaccination finally three or four days ago myself and will have another in 3 or 4 weeks depending on my schedule.

The day the CDC announced fully vaccinated people could interact with each other without masks everyone just decided that Covid is over. Yet when I go to the store I know that 50% of the country is vaccinated and maybe 5-10% of people are wearing masks.
I'm still masking up when I go into stores even though I got both jabs, covid isn't over, it got better and lured everyone into a false sense of security, and now it's getting worse again. I expect mask and social distancing restrictions to be reinforced here shortly. Although I highly doubt we'll see a full shutdown again unless a new devastating strain develops, which could happen if all these idiots stop acting like Covid isn't real.

I just went back in this thread and read our old posts - damn, what a throwback. Having said that, day-to-day life feels pretty normal here in Poland. I've been vaccinated with Pfizer since end of June, and I gotta say my internet reception has never been better. Beep boop Bill Gates Also, I got to see my family after a year! So that was also nice. It was the longest time I spent apart of them. The only thing I really miss is travelling and meeting essien. Also I have 2 business trips scheduled for this year (October and December), but I am reasonably skeptical about them happening. How have you guys been?

I also just took my first time off from work in a year to see parents and grandparents in South Carolina. You have to be really safe there as morons are everywhere, unvaxxed and unmasked and you better believe they have both concealed and unconcealed firearms. We just stayed at the beach mostly. Otherwise things are just as normal as they can be, seeing that I wear a mask for 8 hours at work every day. If I hear someone complain about one of those, absolutely go fuck yourself, they are not that bad and if you think so, put it on for a whole day like I have for a year and a half.

I've always been wearing those textile masks that pull on my ears, which get painful and really uncomfortable after ~2-3 hours. I tried on of those disposable medical masks on my flight back to Poland, and boy, those are so fine, you can't even tell you wear them.

I was being a little hyperbolic of course, but yes there are some heavy duty/no-leak masks like N95s and other industrial respirators that are no joke and leave marks on your face and head from how tight they get. I do have sympathy for medical workers stuck with wearing those. But everyone else wearing light disposable -- but effective -- masks, and the soft two- or three-layer ones in stores, there's just no excuse, they're quite comfortable. Crazy to think it's already September again tomorrow. Ready to give out flu shots at our office a year after how nuts it was last year when we did that.

I talked about a Croatia trip in the shoutbox, it's not happening. Covid is surging upwards in my state, and even though I'm fully vaccinated I just don't feel it's responsible to take on international travel. For all we know there could be a new variant developing this week that will shut down travel all together again.
We have a work trip in January on the books, but who knows if conference is going to happen. I'm kind of sick of everyone acting like pandemic is over just because half the country got two shots. I'm not saying we need to go into full shut down again, but maybe just wear the god damn mask and keep some distance.

Who's country is open for international travelers? My plan was to go to Japan again this fall but I highly doubt they'll be open for us. I'm fully vaxxed and need an escape.
Europe for the first time maybe?!
