Who do you reckon will take Mazepins seat?? I want it to be Piastri, but I'm expecting it to be Fittipaldi.

Kevin Magnussen! Lots of personality, I'm not opposed to it at all.
"Suck my balls, mate"

Pre-season testing done. It's always hard to know how much to read into it but on paper I think Red Bull are looking good and Mercedes are behind. I really hope Ferrari are competitive this year.
I've struggled to get used to the look of the new cars. They just look a bit clunky to me. Particularly the Mercedes with the lack of side pods.
Has anyone watched the new Drive to Survive yet? Think I'll make a start tomorrow.

I have a few nitpicks but it should be enjoyable for any F1 fan and new viewer alike. I think my biggest complaint was them not even acknowledging Alonso's role in Ocon's Hungary win, literally it would have taken 30-60 more seconds of screentime to include. That and they completely cut Albon being the first person into Max's radio after he won the championship and part of me wanted to see how the hell Alex pulled that off. Spoiler alerts, Ocon wins in Hungary and Max wins the drivers championship...

Absolutely love the guy. I loved it but as this was my first season that I had watched the entire year of races, I couldn't help but feel like there were sooo many more things that happened that I wanted to see on DTS. Start making 20 episode seasons please! Or atleast 15 hahaha

Ferrari looking good will hopefully turn this into a 3 horse race, and I hope we get quite a few more random race winners like Danny Ric and Ocon last year.
I really hope we get a few wins from other teams/drivers and that Yuki gets his emotions under control to get some good points. Fuck he had me laughing on his DTS episode.

Carlos Sainz debut win this weekend?!
Haas with both cars in the points?!
Mercedes in the midfield?!
Hulkenburg nabs a podium?!
It's 2022 bitches, it's our first race, and anything is possible!
And we get some Indycar to sprinkle throughout the weekend too.

Looks like they have the car hooked up while Mercedes are struggling with pace and porpoising. Not only do we also have Indycar but also World Endurance Championship happening at Sebring right now. I normally just watch Le Mans but I’m trying to follow the whole series this year. I love seeing different car classes out on track, so many different stories to follow.

I binged Drive to Survive this week. Have to admit the format has started to grate on me. Feels like they’re using the same techniques to dramatise things all the time. The talking heads and fake commentary make me cringe and the gratuitous use of EDM is obnoxious.
That said, it’s still the best insight we get into the drivers. Agree with Riley about Yuki being hilarious. I actually felt sorry for him when he sat down for fish and chips in a chain pub in Milton Keynes. Just give the poor guy some ramen.
Enjoyed this too:

If it wasn't for the porpoising I wouldn't be worried about Mercedes, you can never fully rule out a good ol fashioned sandbag out of them. But the porpoising far along is a sign for concern, we won't know what pace they truly possess until quali, but that car is not a finished product, they are probably on the back foot when they spent the entire second half of last season fully focused on the title fight when everyone else was looking into this year. Like you I normally just watch Le Mans, I don't know if I could invest myself into a full WEC season, especially when I'm already fully invested in F1 and intend to pick up more interest in Indy.

So I guess we got our answer. Mercedes are off the pace but not catastrophically so. Today is about damage limitations and bringing the improvements in the next few races. In the meantime I’ll be backing Ferrari to take as many points off Red Bull as possible. Hopefully they have the race pace to do it. On the WEC, the thing that makes it easier to follow is there’s only six races in a season and one of them is Le Mans. I definitely wouldn’t be trying to keep up with a full programme. So much motorsport so little time.

It's amazing how just merely dropping Mazepin turned my opinion on Haas, I use to just "meh" them, but now their back to being the likeable fun new team who I genuinely want to see do well. Was thrilled to see KMag pull a P5 and was rooting so hard to see Mick get into the points, I can't wait to see him get there.
Fun first race, I don't really have any hot takes because all the takes are pretty obvious. -WTF is up with McLaren? -WTF is up with that Red Bull engine? -WTF Ferrari? Well done! -WTF Mercedes isn't perfect? -WTF Bottas how can you race through the field better in an Alfa Romeo than in a championship winning Merc?
Also well done to Zhou, very nice debut weekend.
Last note I'm kind of bummed to see that's it's probably going to be another year of Red Bull vs. Ferrari vs. Mercedes vs. Everyone else, but I'm also not wholly surprised.

So Lewis is starting behind both Haas and Alpha Romeo cars this weekend and had no grid spot penalty to blame, Checo earned a pole on merit, this is not a drill. The craziness of the season is still fresh enough to be exciting, I just feel that pretty soon it will turn into Ferrari vs. Red Bull vs. the field, and despite all the parity it will still have the same kind of racing as yesteryear.
Still I'm in for it and it's exciting, would love to see Charles put it all together and make a run at the title this year!

Listening to Verstappens temper tantrum last week made my day hahaha god I was so happy. Couldn't believe after everything that had happened all week, that with a few laps to go, both Mercs pass the Red Bulls. God that was great hahaha.
Like said above ^ there were so many awesome parts of last weekend and this one has been crazy too. So glad to see Mick is okay, that had me really worried for 10/15 mins before they said he was conscious and talking with the paramedics.
I still think there's a chance that Merc figures out that Porpoising issue and get the car being competitive to fight for some sort of championship by years end. Until then, COME ON FERRARI. Most importantly Carlos. I'd bloody love to see him start taking charge.
