super cool band from iceland I really love this album. Found out about it only recently through Banger TV’s youtube series of regional metal scene reviews. They reviewed the Icelandic black metal scene and shared some releases, and this one in particular blew me away. Great recommendation to anyone interested in the finer side of black metal.

wolfking.bandcamp.com/You probably won't like this band, because they are more hardcore than metal, but they have so many black metal influences that i couldn't help but think of this thread i've never posted in. So, my friend stringypoo, have at it.

So, my friend stringypoo , have at it. I will most certainly check it out later after I finish practicing violin for a few hours. I am in a very curious mood anyway, so now is great timing. I did, actually notice a ton of people listed Vein for favorite albums of the year and check them out this morning for the first time. I missed the moment they were a big discussion earlier in the year, probably because I only rejoined tdm after it was released. I wasn’t actually planning on listening to it due to its genre but something about this cold ass weather brings out your curious side.

wolfking.bandcamp.com/You probably won't like this band, because they are more hardcore than metal, but they have so many black metal influences that i couldn't help but think of this thread i've never posted in. So, my friend stringypoo , have at it. Alright, I’ve listened to four songs of the album, including the music video. You’re right that they’re much more hardcore than metal, but they certainly fit in this thread, and I appreciate the share. This band’s effort reminds me of Outer Heaven’s album from this year, which was a blend of death metal and hardcore. They were more death/doom before this year’s release. Identity crisis, I suppose. Anyway, I probably won’t revisit Wolfking, but it’s not bad at all! The main thing I didn’t like is the main vocalist. Those highs kept it kinda feeling like a dark Converge album, and I don’t really care for Converge despite having at least five albums. The supporting vocals dude could just kick the main vocalist out and do lows all the time and I’d find this way more interesting already. But that’s just me. I also loved the inclusion of blastbeats, although those never really blended with the hardcore bits at all. They have to shift gears between the two styles when including blastbeats, which I mean, it makes sense. Can’t really imagine blastbeats fitting into a hardcore song very naturally. There were some cool blackened melodic touches which I enjoyed. But overall, the whole thing is either too bouncy for me, or too youthful in its fast skank-beat driven pattern which drove some of its songs (don’t have a name for this beat, but it’s common in hardcore!). I’m sure this band is getting quite a following out in Oakland.
