So i've been researching all the other films i haven't yet seen that may still be in theatres. Honestly i think i'm out of luck, and i'll have to settle for on-demand now. Unless you know of any theatres within, i dunno, an hour's drive of Delaware that are showing stuff. Here's what i've seen so far that has been nominated for anything: Call Me By Your NameDarkest HourDunkirkGet OutLady BirdPhantom ThreadThe PostThe Shape Of WaterThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri(that's all the Best Picture nominees, i was fortunate enough to get to see all of them) I, TonyaThe Disaster ArtistMolly's GameBlade Runner 2049Star Wars: Episode VIII--The Last JediAbacus: Small Enough to JailLast Man in AleppoAs far as i know, there's only one movie left that i thought i had a prayer of catching at the cinema, and it was All the Money in the World. But i've searched and searched and i think it's just not out anymore. I feel like there is a tiny chance i might find the acclaimed Chilean film A Fantastic Woman in some artsy theatre. I'm going to keep looking. As you can see, i'm missing a bunch, so i'm going to start looking on-demand, and damn if it isn't going to cost me a few bucks... i'll watch every other one up for an acting award for sure, screenplays, and most other categories... i expect it to be about 6-8 more, and i'll see if i can get em. A little more than three weeks, here we go.

Best Animated FeatureThe Boss BabyThe BreadwinnerCocoFerdinandLoving Vincent
How do you guys feel about the Best Animated Feature category? I just watched Coco, and it's the only film from the list of nominees that I've seen so far. I thought it was beautiful and the best thing Pixar have done in years. I loved the way it used Mexican culture, how vibrant and colourful the film looked, the music, story and message, and the way it handled difficult themes. From what I've heard and read, The Boss Baby and Ferdinand are throwaway animated movies just in there to make up the numbers. Loving Vincent is an impressive project (every frame is hand painted) but as a movie it's not that great. The Breadwinner is the only other film in the category that I want to see. The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. It looks like it's being released on digital formats in three weeks time.

I'll post a lot more about predictions, odds, and should/will wins within the next couple weeks.

The category usually tends to be a reason to give Disney/Pixar another award for the most part, but it's a nice way of seeing what potential films to check out. I saw Boss Baby last year and your throwaway description sounds about right. Coco was Pixar back at their best as well. Not heard of any of the others. I'd put money on Coco winning though. I do feel bad that the Ghibli films don't ever get the respect they deserve at the Oscars. How the hell did Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit best Howl's Moving Castle in 2005? I'm quite surprised that The Red Turtle hasn't been recognised this year (or last year depending on how they categorise these things)

But yeah it's mad how Japanese animation gets overlooked. There's definitely no otakus at the Academy. Going to see The Shape of Water tonight. Will report back!

Coco is still in a theatre in my town this weekend. While everyone else is seeing Black Panther, i'll go check that out so i can notch another Oscar winner.
Saw Baby Driver last night. That was so fun.

I watched Phantom Thread last night. I wonder if they'll give Daniel Day Lewis a nice sendoff into retirement with another Oscar?

Watched two of the Screenplay nominees this weekend, both thoroughly enjoyed. I now need to work on the rest of the Actor nominations now... going to try to find the Denzel pic on RedBox or something.
Still looking for All the Money in the World. It's in this weird spot where it's not in theatres anymore, but i can't find it on-demand either? Makes no sense. Holding out another week or so.
And i think i might be out of luck on Mudbound since it seems stuck on Netflix and nowhere else. Unless there's a nice member who can offer up the guest password as i mentioned before...?

I watched Phantom Thread last night. I wonder if they'll give Daniel Day Lewis a nice sendoff into retirement with another Oscar? It’ll be interesting to see what happens. He certainly deserves it for that role. Seems like it’s trending toward Gary Oldman with how the other awards have gone this season, though.

Watch the BAFTAs tonight to see if Oldman bags another trophy.

So I watched The Shape of Water last week and honestly I was a little disappointed. It did a lot of things really well and I can see why people like it but it felt like it was missing something and the tone just felt a bit off. I can't get over her banging the swamp creature, basically. 3.5 for me. Planning on seeing Lady Bird this Wednesday and then I've seen all the best picture nominees

Definitely think Oldman will get it, just because he's never won one (And probably deserves it over the course of his career - bit like Leo Di Caprio).

And sure enough he won the BAFTA as well. Three Billboards ate up almost everything else. It's going to be a force at the Oscars.
At this pace i see The Shape of Water winning no more than 2 or 3 awards, if that.
After i try to watch a couple more contenders, i'm going to post my Oscar preview next week, full of surprises, disappointments, predictions, and general nonsense. Post yours too!
