I got pretty attached to the game again now that my characters are generally strong enough that I don't have to grind too much to go from chapter to chapter overall. The storylines flow better overall and I'm just enjoying it more in general, not that I wasn't already enjoying it. So far, my favorite storylines are Alfyn, Primrose, H'aanit, and Olberic, but the others are fine too. I guess for me the weakest or most uninteresting storyline is Tressa's. And I kinda don't care about Cyrus's storyline, even though he is my main character. Hahaha

Currently around 80 hrs. or so in here, with my main four leveling in the 68-73 range. With that being said, I still need to get the two other characters (lol), defeat the two other “secret” shrines, and defeat the “true” boss. Going to take a step back and take a little break otherwise I seriously burn myself out and then I don’t play it at all for like 6 months.

Which two? I’m currently at a point where all of my characters have completed their level 3 quests. But I’ve known nothing of said secret shrines and stuff. I may even just complete each character’s story and call it quits. Been playing this game for so long and I’m craving a new game experience with something less time consuming.

I still have to collect Olberic and Tressa lol. If you want to find the “secret” shrines, let me know, and I can point you in their general directions.

Ah, two characters who are actually quite useful! I plan to keep Olberic in my party since he just deals higher damage than the rest. He can wield poles and swords, so I equipped him with the hunter subclass and now he can wield poles, swords, axes, and bows, making him a very effective striker with his high attack power. And I kinda like where his storyline is going, so that one is totes worth doing. Tressa is useful as well, but her storyline isn’t as interesting to me. Her ability to randomly stumble upon money is sometimes helpful when you’re spending most of your money on expensive items frequently. And naturally the fact that she uses pole weapons is a plus. I kinda doubt I’ll have the desire to do secret stuff when I finish all the chapter 4 segments, honestly. I’m dying to play any other of the 14 games I bought before I came to China in August...hahaha

Holy shit, Ogre Eagle is hard! I now am regretting taking on Alfyn’s Chapter 4 first. I find myself level grinding when In theory I really shouldn’t have to. Suggested level for all chapter 4 is 45, and I’m in there with Alfyn at level 60, Cyrus level 60, Olberic level 56, and a Tressa whom I’ve been leveling and currently at 44. I’ve died to the eagle a few times and grinded away more and more. This sucks.

Lol I’m still trying to beat Ogre Eagle. I thought I had gotten good at the mechanics and all of the game, but in watching two YouTube videos of people beating Ogre Eagle, I realized I know so little about the battle mechanics. Maybe partly because I never use stat buff moves and rarely use items. But I was blown away seeing other people regularly dealing out well over 9999 damage in hits with characters leveled well under mine, while I can only nail a 9999 with Olberic using his most powerful move. Seems there’s much to learn...

I happened to turn on Octopath for a moment with the intention of messing around with Alfyn’s concoct ability to reveal potentially helpful results when I for a moment got kinda disoriented on the level map near the boss fight and found myself walking up and accidentally started the ogre eagle battle again. Really pissed me off, but then I managed to finally beat it this time! I made better usage of items and Tressa’s BP donation. I never imagined I’d be able to finish off the boss in so few turns, but it worked out this time. So stoked!

tao I’m afraid to ask, but I figured you might know. I have now put down the final chapters of Alfyn, Tressa, and Olberic. Have you done any post main game content which you deemed a must-do? I guess your last update showed you still hadn’t picked up two characters, but I’m thinking you’ve done a few extra stuff. Now that I’m finding myself able to knock out one final chapter every one to two sittings, I feel like putting an end to chapter 4 sections on all 8 characters and calling it quits so I can finally start a different game. However, these endings are really nice, and it makes me curious about post-game content. I really just want to play something less lengthy for a little while now. Perhaps something on my PS4 and something on the switch, games I don’t have to invest all my time into.

I finally got to the credit roll on my file: completed all 8 storylines. There is still some extra stuff to do, but I’m done with this game for now. It was wonderful. I do somewhat wish the 8 characters’ storylines related to each other a little, but it’s a minor criticism for a very unique spin on a familiar style of rpg. Oh, and I don’t have any clue how the average main story completion is 58 hours on “How Long to Beat.” Maybe I just took my time enjoying the environment, but I clocked in right at the 93 hour mark! My party at the end included three level 71 characters: Cyrus, Alfyn, and Olberic. H’aanit was my last character in the party down to level 53 due to rotation for completing other character stories.
Oh, and the medley of main themes from the game re-orchestrated during the credits was lovely. Awesome.

I feel like such a fool. : ‘ ( Outside of trying to finish all the side quests you had going and beating the “secret” shrines, there is one (1) side quest people say you have to do to achieve the “true” ending of the game. IIRC, it starts in H’annit’s hometown with a boy looking for his family(?), and then you meet him later in Alfyn’s ch. 2 town and help him and a friend get into the traveling circus right outside of town, and then my memory gets fuzzy from there... I think you meet him again close to Tressa’s hometown; all in all, there’s like 4-5 parts to this quest, and honestly, you have fast travel now, so going through the parts should be easy. I haven’t beaten it yet, but knowing how much a FUCKING pain in the ass the boss is, I’d say look it up and see the party configurations others have for it and take it on at your own peril. Once again, I think ohrichard has a video or two about the quest and how to beat the boss. Happy questing!!!

Picked this back up and knocked Therion and Cyrus’ ch. 4’s out, so they’re finished. I dunno, Cyrus’ ending was a little weak compared to how they were building it up. Oh well. Rotated them both out and slotted Alfyn and Primrose in to level them up fast; I’ll keep Ophilia in until I get Olberic/Tressa and equip them with the cleric class. It felt good to come back to this.

Lol, you took a long break from this game. I can’t remember much about most characters’ endings, but I remember Cyrus’s, and I agree it was a little weak. Therion had a semi-interesting story, but I can’t stand his personality and it spoiled his story for me a little bit. I think Alfyn was my favorite character in the game, but I actually can’t remember the ending to his story, minus the fact I remember the NPC that he deals with at the end. I didnt do any end-game stuff, and I think I’m gonna pass on it. When I saw the credit roll, there was a desire to do more, but I am ultimately glad I moved on. Really great game, but I still stick with my first criticism that the 8 storylines not being related in any way kind of destroys a sense of continuity unless you are able to go through a single character’s chapter 1-4 without stopping, which is almost impossible the way the game is designed unless you didn’t pick up a character until late in the game. Love the music, most of the characters, and the battle system. It’s challenging and engaging, but I found story to take a slight backseat despite being a story-driven game.

Yeah, the more I stayed away from it the more I realized I needed that break. I was really close to flaming out on it, but now I’ve swapped all 4 fresh characters in and I want to finish it now.
