I did a bad thing. I upgraded my MacBook operating system to the latest version and then used that new iOS to download a functioning emulator. Well, it was Openemu, so I can now play game ROMs on any of like, 20 consoles? It’s crazy. I tested it out with some games I never played but was curious about. Played Capcom vs SNK for PS1 on it the other day. Started Madden NFL 2007 for the GameCube today. That game was surprisingly good and I think it’s better than recent Madden games! Now I just constantly think about what games I want to play next on it. Lol
I’m at the end of Chrono Cross and am contemplating my next main game. I’m thinking to do Chrono Trigger since I only completed it once more than 12 years ago so I can’t remember much of it. But with it being the sort of prequel to Chrono Cross, it’s fair to say I’m now quite curious.

I'm currently making a slow progress of gaming since I'm mostly taking the time to get caught up with the Pokemon Series. I am currently playing Stranger Paradise Final Fantasy. I'm trying to have Tetsuya Nomura on my mind since he's a one who's involved in this project. A one who made Kingdom Hearts and was involved in Final Fantasy 7, then later create the remake of it. To keep the hype going and all.

Now that I've got my fancy Openemu emulator running on my MacBook, I've gone with a game which felt only natural after having just finished Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers edition on Switch the other day. I'm now playing Chrono Trigger, the DS version so that I could get the cutscenes and all the other improvement features it came with. It's so cool to see some characters that actually made it into the Chrono Cross game that was not an official sequel. The subtle but real connections between these two games and their lore is really surprising and thoughtful. I now have a much stronger sense of appreciation for these two games. I would love to see a new title connected to these, even though I'll likely never play it since I'll probably never get a PS5 or any other new consoles. And I'm not going down that hardcore PC gamer route either. I'm now fine to stick with emulation for the tons of games I never got to play or to replay games I loved like Chrono Trigger.

What's a simultaneous positive/negative is that when I was playing it I was using a walkthrough just so I could find/experience everything I could as I went through it; I can guarantee if I played it blind, I wouldn't have found/noticed half of what I did.

Lol right? It’s one of those games where you could walk around and scout out all environment scene corners while mashing the A button and pick up lots of hidden items and stuff the whole way through. And of course side quests and stuff. I love how much of that element was added in Chrono Cross as well. I beat Trigger once, many years ago, but I don’t remember much about it anymore because it was when I was still a bit young. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to play it now, since Chrono Cross was so good and had some light connections.

Yeah, I definitely found that to be a lot of backtracking on my first playthrough many years back. Chrono Cross had me doing the same thing. I feel like this time around I'm much more aware and sharp when it comes to knowing where to go and into what time era and whatnot, as I'm progressing quickly through it. However, my poor memory of what all occurs in the game also leads me to believe I may just THINK I've gone a long way and maybe it's not true. Lol I'm already thinking about which SNES-era RPG I'm gonna emulate next. Possibly the Illusion of Gaiea because I loved that and also can't remember the story anymore.

Tekken 3 Medal of Honor (the original one)
Now that I have finished Chrono Trigger, I was trying to choose my next big game to try and get through. I was narrowing it down to some RPGs I had never had the change to play on PS1, Suikoden 2 and Valkyrie Profile, both of which I really thought looked incredible. But I also realized I'm about to move out of Kunshan and be back with my family full time and never to return to Kunshan for work with my new job starting in Shanghai after Summer holiday. So I may not have enough time to cram through a big RPG like those right now or ever. Need to wait and see what the new life looks like before I go into that, so I'm sticking with a couple of lighter, pick up and play games in Tekken 3 and Medal of Honor, both excellent games on PS1 that I always loved.

I only beaten Suikoden 3 and thinking about getting Chrono Cross remaster version as my first Chrono Franchise to try out. I'm currently playing Rage, which is an Id Software game. I haven't played the game in literally over a decade. A decade later, I am here now. Which is crazy. I already beaten the game in normal mode and now, I'm taken it on hard mode.

How did you like Suikoden 3? I would consider that one too. As far as Chrono Cross Remastered, I freaking love the game, but the remasters are famously known to suffer from a huge framerate issue, which makes no sense given that the remasters are on much more powerful hardware. They just did not optimize the game fully for each port. I played the remaster on my Switch, and there is so much button lag and framerate loss in battles that it is very jarring at times. I don't regret buying it, but it's one of those things that you have to know what you're getting into when you get it or you might just be angry with that. The original PS1 release of the game was so much smooth, lacking the framerate and button lag issues. The reason is because in the original game release, it was optimized perfectly for the PS1. The later releases weren't fully optimized. It was laziness with the re-releases...a lot of people seem to halfway understand the problem. Excellent game, super worth playing. Rage I almost beat, but for some reason I lost interest later in the game. It sure did look amazing on the console though.

I only run the disc once through my PS3 and forgot all about it. Planning to purchase through PSN on PS4. That reminds me, when it comes to J-RPG PS1 remastered. I have played one of it, which is SaGa Frontier (I yet to complete all the protagonist tales and been a while that I played it). There's this thing where you could able to fast speed like superman or treating like you're using the game rom emulator where you hold a certain key where you walk super fast, along with the background track. Unsure if the original; Saga Frontier has that option, to get off-topic a bit. Rage is A-alright, the ending that is.. I think I might be done with that game for sure. I was a bit attach of wanting to try platinum the trophy (Via PS3). I don't back down when it comes Id Software games LOL. Not planning to play Rage 2 anytime soon. Suikoden 3 is worth playing, The turn based is worth it and the OST was beautiful, always a pleasure to hear exquisite tunes when it comes to J-RPG. It's been a while but, I think you choose different characters later in the game, they are 3 to pick, and will eventually complete all the 3 paths of those protagonist, one at the time. I kept leaving it on hold back and forward for 5 years ish. I finally wiped it off from my backlog. I followed the walkthrough guide from this website called Gamefaq (now called: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ as a current address), using it to try getting 100% of everything, I think I missed some, if I remembered correctly. It was my first Suikoden game to beat. I guess I was following the guide mindlessly and cheating with it I guess haha. I won't be thinking about playing the next one. Someday. Lots of backlog I have to wiped out especially J-RPG's.

Finally finished Breath of the Wild at the weekend. Beautiful game with more than a few Ghibli influences. I don't quite have the urge to explore every inch of the environment and complete all the side quests but I really enjoyed the 30 hours or so I spent in Hyrule.
Last night I started Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It's the first R&C game I've played - I'd previously been put off by the cartoony look of it - but I'm loving it so far. Pixar quality animation and the gameplay is fun and satisfyingly smooth.

It's been a while I've played a Persona game. Last time I beat was 3 (PSP Version). Which is 4 years ish back I think. Now I'm glad to announce I'm resuming 5 (On the PS3). Have the game for a while, bought it new from gamestop years back.

I finished up The Quarry last night. I was hoping it would be as enjoyable as Until Dawn but it really wasn't. I liked the cast and it looked great but the plot was pretty meh and it just wasn't fun to play. Disappointing as it had the makings of a horror classic.
Back to Ratchet and Clank.

Never thought I’d ever start playing it, as it was a game I avoided all this time because I was annoyed at hundreds of students who couldn’t stop talking about this game both during classes at school and also during violin/piano lessons I taught over the years. But I finally bit the bullet and got Minecraft Pocket Edition for my iPhone/iPad. At first, it just felt lame and pointless for me. (Playing in creative mode, haven’t tried survival mode yet), but I’ve kinda stuck with it for these two days and played during random moments and built a cabin and now a massive 2 story structure for which I’m currently finalizing the rooftop and developing the interior rooms and designs.
Umm...I have such mixed feelings about this right now. It feels so aimless, and yet tearing up a level of flooring to change the tile color with new blocks is kinda zen for me, oddly. I hate this. It’s addicting and meaningless all at the same time!
